@greenroofer, sorry to miss you. The towpath has picked up, Big John is there often, JDP will hi5 me and a social work buddy heading to Wester Hailes does the same.

We can organise too if you want to risk it for a biscuit.

Old favourites have returned. Scowling academic. He actually scowls at a bus stop on Princess St 10pm last night, Smiley academic with beard is back. Rainbow woman is a new person who says hello. She is on a big sit up and beg and is headed up WoL Path too.

Various good and bd dog walkers who have always been there remain.

Something has been attacking my milk carton over night?

I think it might be a jackdaw.

But might be the mink. Spotted what might be mustelid scat down the back garden.

Kenny the milkman is saying the neighbours have also reported similar torn cartons.

Been on What’s that scat? Website and now think culprit might be pheasant.

Riding up Comiston Road in the southbound cycle lane yesterday: two neds dressed all in black and with scarves over their faces, two-up and unhelmeted on an obviously illegal electric motorcycle* :(

    * I prefer not to call such machines "e-bikes" - IMO that term should be used solely for EAPCs.

Sounds a lot like the two gentlemen I encountered on the Innocent a few weeks back.

I spotted the two of them in the Meadows (at a safe distance) then on South Clerk Street, along which one was wheelieing, on the Saturday evening before last...

    Hard to know.

On top of Hunter Square toilets.

He (presumably - face obscured of course) rode up and down the steps a few times.

No apparent accomplice - previously see pairs (and more) on The Mound etc.

    ‘Convention’ says ‘drug deal’, but…

Am currently scouring the early days of CCE for something that ‘must be there somewhere”.

Found this link still working, it predates CCE by about 10 years.

    Some things don’t change…

Big John on the canal towpath this morning. During a brief chat about films, he hailed a passing cyclist by name - I suggested that he must know a lot of people from his regular walks along the towpath. He agreed and recounted a tale of having been at a pub by Meadowbank when someone approached him and offered to buy him a beer. He asked if he knew them, to which they replied that they recognised him from the canal towpath - they often rowed on the canal and would see him in passing. I also mentioned that we have a common friend, which he also agreed with by doing a fair imitation of how gembo presumably greets John when overtaking.

Spotted some extremes of the personal transport spectrum on yesterday's ride.
First off, riding into Edinburgh along the path at the Jewel I heard a 'hoot' to my right and was then passed by one of those stupid illegally-modified electric scooter things. How do I know it was illegal? According to my Wahoo I was ticking along at 23mph at the time.
Then when riding up Arthur's Seat another rider on a modded electric fat bike flew past me. What's the point in doing hill reps on an e-bike that's doing all the work? The rider was making a token effort at turning the pedals I guess.
Finally near the top at the steep bit I passed a young guy manfully grinding his way up on a single-speed/fixie. Chapeau to that guy, it's hard enough with a nice spread of gears including a 32 on the rear cassette. He probably regarded me with the same level of derision with my wimpy cogs and derailleurs as I do e-bikers.

Can you tell I'm not a fan of illegal e-vehicles?

P.S. I guess this confirms that I'm back on the bike!

Waved hello yesterday morning to very-occasionally-OTP AlanR on his lovely ICE trike as I was exceeding the speed limit, probably, going down Oxgangs Road North.

Ah, was that the swing on the Braid Burn, the steeping stones through the mud, or one of today's other damp and muddy activities? Sorry not have made the reciprocal spot.

Was at the swing, aye. I was disguised as a dog walker, and the dogs weren't in a mood to stop at the time.

I think there was a reciprocal spot of MrsKim this morning when I was walking to the local shop for milk.
