Dawes Horizon this morning cycling across the brodge. Nice chap cycled with me along towards Kirkliston before I peeled off towards Cramond brig.

  2. Slighlty odd one this morning. I rode up round the high road of Arthur's Seat and stopped for some landscapey photos of Duddingston Loch. I saw some cyclists waaaaaay down on the Innocent with one chap speeding past them all in a white t-shirt (he was riding a bike, the t-shirt wasn't his conveyance).

    One snap here...

And then I zoomed in on the result and realised... It's Wingpig!

I wasn't on alert for you until I got to Tollcross when you weren't lurking on Piersfield Terrace. Look! You can clearly see my newly-re-mounted TL-AU100BS, though it's only in a pannier-avoiding location at the moment and would have to be de-fitted to stick the child seat on.

Looks like I came embarrassingly close to being spotted lurking in the tunnel taking test pics for a hubshot idea.

O RLY? You mean you've joined anth in stealing my potential locations?
Much safer at night for potentially hard-to-explain tunnel shots.

Eek. So THAT'S where you bury the bodies. ;-) I am likely to change the location to somewhere darker and brickier anyway so you are safe.

  7. Funnily enough I was pondering the now-very-dark Innocent Tunnel homeward commute for Hubshots... Still got one I really really want to do though. Other locations as they occur to me.

Anyway Mr Pig, you've cornered the market in the offbeat, even if it was someone else's shot.

    Hubshots?

What are they? Low angle pics?

Holding Up Bike shots. You cycle somewhere and take a photograph of yourself waving the bike over your head. You may also photograph someone else doing it.

Headshot is shot of head, so...

    Oh that sort of pic.

Seems to be fashionable among the young extroverts.

Not sure whether it says 'I'm strong' or I've got a light bike'.

    Common at Critical Masses.

Now, now. Introverts can do them too, often without trying to say anything by them except "I like cycling and taking photographs (and find the occasional not-having-to-think-of-anything day quite handy sometimes)".

    And this of course -

...which was recorded and posted in response to a 6'2" >17st beefy rugby-player-sized MTBer (and graphic designer) mentioning that he couldn't lift his bike over his head without involuntarily emitting windstuffs. Is helpful, in case someone strained something trying to emulate Joe with his 7.5kg cardbard bike.

Oh I thought Pandashots were the new shots. Turns out I'm well out of touch.

I'm pretty sure I'd struggle to hold my mtb long enough for a self portrait, now we need some one to do the same with a large supermarket one.

I might try taking one of these, they look quite fun. I could try tonight on "lap the seat" (1815 at barrier at bottom of Arthur's Seat climb, for those that are interested)

  20. meh, some of us can do it no-handed...

    "lap the seat"

Is that a daily winter evening event?

    "lap the seat"

I'm tempted by a spot of nocturnal seat lapping now I've loaded up on retina-searing lights. But not tonight, as I'm oot for a beer. And I'd struggle to make 6.15pm on a normal work day, but could be onto the circuit by 6.30pm, I'd guess.

I take it it's nice and quiet at this time of year, or do you get a few night-joggers as well?

615 every tuesday for an hour or so, or however long 4 laps take! Now I have better lights I may stick around longer. Laps taking 12-15 minutes so if you were there at intervals of say 15 minutes we would pick you up on the way round.

Not a race and re-group at top and bottom.

It's pretty quiet, a few ninja joggers in the darkness running on the road but I figure they can avoid me if I have lights and reflective and they don't.

  24. I rode up there before PY last Friday and it's really good fun in the dark. Not sure I'd manage 4 laps yet though. Although 12-15 minute laps seems about right (27 minutes to work this morning incoporating the high road).

Oh I'm sure you would! But we can always leave you half way up, camera in hand, to get some action shots 15 minutes later!

I could manage 4 laps but would struggle to get home afterwards.... Plus my night lite is just that 'lite'. I'm in need of a Dynohub etc...

I might be able to make it now as beers has been cancelled. Will see if I can get the lights mounted in time...

I'm collecting Laidback from his shop at 6. We will be at the barrier by 615. And probably again about 630, 645 until one or both or either of us get bored / cold / tired and go home!

  30. Not really up for it tonight (hard/annoying day at work and just want to get home to relax), but pencil me in for next week. I may well go with the option of waiting at the top on the second lap to catch people on their third lap and then join in for a fourth. Could get some interesting long-exposure light trails in the dark.
