I was thinking the same thing, all the sensible people are on holiday (aka, what am I doing here?), when a blast of wind in my face made me feel that I was doing better than 30mph, although my speedo only said 8mph. For the first time ever, I crawled up the Lanark Road to Gillespie Crossroads doing 4.5mph. Just as well I can go as slow as I like on a trike.

One cyclists coming opposite way just as I pulled out onto Melville Drive and a second at Fountainbridge as I turned onto Grove Street. That is all.
Second cyclist had hefty wind-assist but inflation of her tyres seemed so low that she was making at best walking speed.

Maybe the seasonal lack of students is having an impact too? I have noticed a fair number of cyclists around Easter Road and Leith Walk, but not as many as usual. Also far fewer long distance commuter cyclists on London Road/Regent Road than is normal.

Lots of cyclists around Chambers St, including Laidback on paperbike?

Just back from a wee break in t'Dales. We attempted to go over Buttertubs pass on the way back (in car!) but the snow on the road was just a bit too interesting to attempt 20% descents so we turned back. However from tracks in the snow we could see that a bike had recently been over but had not wimped out like us. Wow!

went out in the rain, saw 1 cyclist!

The rain certainly was cold in Edinburgh, but as long as I kept the speed up, I was OK for heat, if not actually warm. In the meadows, I saw a couple of other cyclists in the same weather, but it wwas a quiet day. Even the wind had abated - I felt I had a turbo-boost on, compared with yesterday!

@ruggtomcat, you must have missed me then! ;-p Probably the other end of town...
At least there's not much wind today.

Since the 23rd I've seen one chap on a road bike, apparently doing the Dundee-Forfar run like me; one on what I assume from wheel size was a folder; three lads accompanying one with a kiddie motorbike and that's that.
Also saw a few people look at me like I was an alien for biking to the supermarket in today's snow, which has lain.

I thought for a moment that I was missing snow in Edinburgh AGAIN, same as the last time I was stuck in jetstream-ridden snowproof Ayr, then I remembered you're elsewhere.
Five pavement ninja between Leith and the M8 late this afternoon.

Lots out cycling in Midlothian countryside this am.

Tends to happen anywhere outside large cities (and maybe East Anglia), regardless of the weather.

Sean Connery, riding a classic butcher's bike through an empty shipyard in a clip from a programme he made for STV in 1969 on Clydeside. Part of 'The Men Who Built The Liners', BBC4, about 10 minutes ago.

I saw that too, great program.

The bike looked like this, but the sign was just plain black.

This was back when Big Tam used to go round to Rikki Fulton's house off the Great Western Road for a game of darts. Also when he supported Celtic, before he supported Rangers.

guy on a white Genesis.going along Niddrie Mains towards Cameron Toll. assume it had dynamo lights by the size of the front hub.

Spotted a guy fixing a flat tyre last night, heading for Mussleburgh at outside HP in S Queensferry. Stopped to light him up while he finished up. Meridia Roadrace? bike.
Then at Shell also in S Queensferry, spotted a guy pushing his Specialized Allez towards the bridge. I asked him if he needed any thing? New chain he said. He was walking to Ferry Toll PnR so I walked across the bridge with him before we rolled down to the PnR.

I think I was spotted this morning. Well, twice.
First up the bottom of the Royal Mile, head down contemplating the climb, a shout of 'Anth!' brings me to a halt, followed by a chat with a running Min.
Then reaching the lights at the Bridges a rider going from north to south aboard a black Ridley waves a greeting. I return the wave, but haven't been with it this morning, so if it was someone on here, and they were definitely waving at me, sorry, I've no idea who was waving!

LOTS of cyclists during rush hour yesterday evening, in the ASL at corner of London Rd/Easter Rd, heading east. We formed a line across three lanes of road.
Not quite London, but pretty impressive for the east of Edinburgh. I'm beginning to believe that there are a lot more folk cycling these days.
Of course a builder's van had to go and spoil the moment by cutting me up at the next set of lights...

Possibly Mr. SRD and a junior SRD going past Craiglockhart Primary? It was an orange tandem anyway.
Oh, wait. That one's been in this thread before, hasn't it?

"That one's been in this thread before, hasn't it?"
perhaps
SRD's is black

Forumer on back of the Terra tandem trike at around 6.30 tonight.

(I'll never sleep tonight...)
Posted 12 years ago # -
Jeepers Min!! Do you need a Cat C licence to drive that trike? What is the turning circle like?
Posted 12 years ago # -
Enormous. We needed a full width road with a wee bit of side road to start off with. Laidback seemed to think that a bit of speed would help. ;-)

I'd hate to have to carry it over and narrow hourse gates, which I see on some paths. Prob have to stick to roads on some routes.
Posted 12 years ago # -
Yes I think most cycle paths are ruled out for that reason. It was clear that cycle lanes are too narrow too. The trike isn't that wide but you realise just how narrow the lanes are when you have two wheels side by side.
Posted 12 years ago # -
Width wise it is a bit wider than a door frame (unlike solo trikes from ICE).
Zig zag barriers and twisty bits are the main barrier I suspect. On my recce to Penicuik I used my bike to measure bollard spacing and it was ok.
Min and I were worried we'd ground it on the speed bumps.. but no.
