Woman in a blue jacket setting an absolutely cracking* pace along the towpath from Hermiston to Slateford (well, I thought so and I reckon I set a fair pace myself) on an interesting looking drop-handle black singlespeed at around 5pm.

Probably someone on here, judging by the rather specialised nature of the bike.

*For the record, she (and I) took all the dangerous bits carefully and at reasonable pace, but opened up the throttle on bits with clear sightlines and no other traffic.

Spotted a cheerful SRD on Helios tandem waiting to cross Melville Drive while I was accelerating eastwards to LBB.

I shouted too ! Like at a Springsteen concert :)

[I'm actually more of a Cockburn fan. but Springsteen's older and newer stuff is growing on me - specially the Pete Seeger tribute album, which is the first of his I've ever bought]

Chap on an MTB with the most knackered back wheel I've ever seen on a moving bike.

The chain wasn't just rusted, it was Aphex Twinning so fearsomely that my ears started trying to Venus Flytrap themselves shut to block out the noise. The tyre may or may not have been offset as well, but the rim was certainly so out of true that once a revolution it knocked the left pad of the cantilever, which rebounded so far that I doubt it could have had much braking effect.

In my bad-cold state I didn't have any spare breath to suggest he take it round the back of the barn and blow its brains out with Grandpaw's shotgun, so I just settled on overtaking him(for he was naturally riding slowly).

Caught me up at the lights, delicious irony.

Leaving the house at 8:30am seems to be the sweet-spot for maximum cycling-clumping!

Joined 5 other cyclists along Gilmore Place - cycled with most of them to middle meadow walk. I feel motor traffic behaves differently when there's that many bikes around.
Also it just feels really good to have that many people cycling. We've nearly reached critical mass! Woohoo! :D

Yes, clumping! A record seven cyclists in the ASL box at foot of Morrison Street (well 5 in the box and 2 in the filter lane).

    More of this please.

Man in Full mapei-colour-esque lycra, riding a pink too-small-full-sus-BSO along the pavement at Gamekeepers Road. Child following behind normally dressed on bigger bike.

    Very odd.

Boardman track bike converted to Alfine hub gear on Morrison Street. Very neat installation, took a while staring at it while we waited at the lights to figure it all out.

Nope, not me, sorry. Maybe this cargonista thing is catching on. (Thinks: hope someone hasn't broken into the lockup and nicked the Ute!)

"Three dingbats (two citizen, one fluoro) steaming along Shandwick Place on the narrow south pavement."

Anti-social - especially if peds around - and illegal, but hardly surprising.

They'd probably just been to the 'tram update' session.

It's clear from Princes St. etc. that pedestrians, cyclists and busineses have not exactly been 'considered' in any sort of positive sense!
