@SRD, I'm sure it's cheating if you actually arrange the aforementioned soup-eating.... :P

Cheers Dave, sorry I forgot you're name, I guess out of context (on an Audax) I recognised you but I regognise so many cyclists these days I never know if they are on my commute to work to say hi to or on this place.

@Arrelcat & steveo
I think I should get my money back from Laidback - clearly the invisible bike I hired was faulty...
;-)
I was enjoying winding the Fuego up a bit at that point, having mostly got the measure of it. I'm still feeling a bit slow off the mark at lights though, possibly trying to push too high a gear initially...

Had to be read in context with previous post 'anth on the innocent' which is nearly as predictable as scheduled soup eating! :)
Posted 12 years ago # -
Actually, I haven't ridden the Innocent in months. Was only going that way to check on the PoP posters! So nerr! :P

Not sure if I spotted an Uberuce heading out of town along the A71 just before 9am.
Posted 12 years ago # -
Not I - at that point I was getting a bundle of kids ready for a rather lovely day trip to East Link Farm Family Park Farm Thing.
Any suggestion that I was showing off a bit on the go-karts is, and always shall be, absurd.

Splitshift and friend at Falkirk stadium volunteering to do more community work... ;-)
Nice to finally put a face to the name(s)! :-)Posted 12 years ago # -
Though later than I've usually seen him, the only person I've ever seen heading west along Spring Gardens has been Anth, so I'm going to suggest the flash of red in the distance this morning at about twenty to nine was him.

Nope, I was checking on the PoP posters, and was running early this morning, so not me!

saw a guy on a lovely orange Klein road bike this morning by Edinburgh Uni'
anyone here?Posted 12 years ago # -
smudge at falkirk stadium offering more comun......you know the rest, indeed good to put a face !
Lots of bikers/part time cagers/cyclists, some even with the audacity to wear helmets in public, with hi vis clothing, perversely appearing to ENJOY THEMSELVES, at the falkirk wheel today. Son wanted an out today, route was his choice. quite good actually !
One of these people actually had matching clothing and bike, these people should be the first to get caught by the comunity wardens with fashion guns !
(mmmmmmm, cant speak , my tounges stuck in my cheek !)

@Uberuce, re your claim about not showing off on the go karts at East Links...
I have a spy aged six and eleven twelfths whose testimony of the day at East Links would tend to support the claim that you were showing off, rather than refute it. :-)
For those not in the know, East Links Family Park has a range of rather splendid pedal powered vehicles suitable for adults (go karts + trailers, four-seat golf buggies etc). The temptation for keen cyclists to experiment with the maximum speed of these vehicles is quite strong, but, Uberuce, it must be resisted.

This evening on the Union Canal towpath a Circe Helios with two coxweans in a small convoy of adults and children on bikes.
I thought to myself as I drew up beside them "There can't be that many Helioses in Edinburgh", but I of course don't know what the SRD family actually look like. I hazarded a guess and enquired if it were indeed they.
I was partly right, so...
Spotted this evening Mr SRD on the Helios on the towpath. SRD herself being elsewhere at the time.I realised after I'd headed off that I never did them the courtesy of introducing myself.

I would have got away with it if it wasn't for those meddling kids....
I spent the bulk of my time on the karts explaining why I wasn't going full tilt - most children have a First Bus approach to other roads users* - but I confess I spun up as fast as I could a few times, but they're so sensibly overengineered that I never had to slow down for the sake of the frame.
*Your spy excluded. If the other 150 were like her, I'd be out of a job.

ha,I saw the Choppers the other day.
today, just up from there at Summerhall
saw a guy on a Boardman setting a cracking pace
gad I was on foot so as not to be shamedPosted 12 years ago # -
Funnily enough we spotted the Choppers too en route to Holy Rood High School Fencing Club last night. They are undoubtedly iconic but swift application of the front brake is not advised. The architect at the new Holy Rood has done a good job of incorporating the bikeshed into an overhang above which sit some classrooms then a roof terrace, covered, I guess for about 100 teachers to have a fag in peace. Combined with the library's views up the loch, a very decent job.

There can't be that many Helioses in Edinburgh We are trying - I think there are more than eight .... actually run out of frames over Easter. They are all black so look the same.
I also came across a Helios from Holy Island in for annual service at TBW. Family is on holiday in Edinburgh and brought their bike with them. Their one has a Brooks saddle. The owner repairs coffee machines (and sells excellent coffee beans) here and in Newcastle.

I failed to spot Mr Laidback Bikes on my marathon wander around Edinburgh today. But Ellen was much admiring of the little bike in the shop window.

@greenroofer - they were curious to know who you were! Wish I'd been there too. I was tootling round town in disguise on a Brompton.

Had a nice chat with Jim the (ex-, I believe) courier, on my way home today.
I'd just been inspecting the new fences that span two-thirds of the Leamington Lift Bridge, complete with 'cyclists dismount' signs, no doubt precipitated by not enough Polite Cycling™. :-(

Really? How obnoxious. Another step backward for cycling in Edinburgh. It is hard to believe anyone could imagine that creating a bottleneck like that would stop inconsiderate cyclists. It will surely just make them worse since there is much less space to ride through. Perhaps it was to stop motorcyclists?

Must have a look at this. Yet another indicator that cycling levels are up! Hope Sustrans will indicate the diversion around by Cargo.. :-)

Very nice to meet Liz riding up Dalkeith rd, and put another face to name!

chdot (I presume), photographing the cycle speedway race at Redbraes this afternoon.

Young rider in green jacket riding a single speed with orange rims. Passes me as I wait at red to go onto North Bridge. Despite his Rlj I follow him through green at Tron. He then cycles through another red light where old person is crossing slowly. I stop then catch him again as he waits at Infirmary St. Best persistant cycle-chic (cheek) I've seen for a while. He didn' t like my bike either. I said nothing.
