Old lady cycling very slowly through red light on Ponton Street. As I turn onto Fountainbridge I see her chastising someone for parking in the cycle lane!
As I catch her up just before the next set of lights, she then jumps onto pavement and starts cycling. Really couldn't make it up.
I did comment to her on the hypocrisy of shouting at the owner of the parked car after just cycling through the red light, and cycling on the pavement, she didn't share my view.Posted 12 years ago # -
Anth, coming towards me on Bath Street, Portobello at noon today. I was heading down to the prom, he the other way: part of today's 50 mile ride. Another two cyclists following in his wake - didn't recognise them but riding the same trail.

Aha! That would have been me, Steveo and Zenfrozt heading to the bank machine!

Which is where I had just come from....had it been a minute earlier we might have been chatting outside the ATM.

Typical comments about perceived danger!

Woah! Lots of misplaced recumbent hate on Blipfoto!
- As a driver I hate seeing these on the road, they are so low down, you can't help but think that they are in huge danger.- I think this type of bikes are more difficult for motorists to see as they are so low
- Comfortable, I'm sure, but dangerous I'm positive. We see a lot of these out our way, and I find them very dangerous and they are not very visible from a distance when driving.
- Looks like a confortable ride but its a bit low down for visibility
- They always look at bit dangerous - so near to the ground
- Don't know if they're more comfortable but I always think these bikes look a bit strange and don't think I'd feel very safe on one!
- I have seen these daft looking bikes around town, don't think they look very safe!
- Really weird looking and hard to see
I guess motorists are like T-rex in Jurassic Park and can only see you if you're moving. Or over a certain height?
I tell you what looks unsafe is a 3 tonne, 3-metre long Range Rover where the driver's head is 2.5 metres off the road, peering down an enormous bonnet through tinted windows, distracted by the electronic wizardry at their fingertips and has hundreds of horsepower at their disposal at the press of a pedal!
I think we need a recumbentlove education campaign here people!

Pair of bike Polis riding two abreast in Gilmerton Road.
If they do this more often, maybe it will rid the ridiculous notion that it is "illegal" to do this from the public psyche..

Morningsider (in yellow plumage, not red) zipping down Bruntsfield Links as I was heading up. Closing speed faster than my reaction time.
Closely followed (Morningsider that is) by a stoker-less yellow kiddy-back tandem.

RJ - well spotted, first outing for my summer jacket in some time!

"If they do this more often, maybe it will rid the ridiculous notion that it is "illegal" to do this from the public psyche.."
Nah, they'll just keep thinking that they are 'above the law'.

kaputnik, who I gallantly let suck my wheel for half a mile or so in order that he may be rested for the remainder of his commute.

I spotted Anth's hat from a distance on Dundee Street, but didn't realise it was Anth wearing it until I caught him at the lights at Diggers. Made some sort of "you're a bit lost, aren't you" comment to him across the cars inbetween he and I.
Posted 12 years ago # -
The car in between had beeped not long before that - I thought at me, which seemed odd. When I looked back it was actually at him, but he waved an apology/wasn't at you mate. Then saw kappers in Team Banana glory.
I'm on the stealth non-beige bike, which helps - SRD was coming the other way on Melville Drive when I was heading home last night. Got her on video and everyfink, but pointedly ignored me :P

Was that you that left your bike on the curb/protruding into bike lane while photoing the meadows?
Had just picked up bike (after losing chain second time in two days). luckily not only had my on-order cog and chain arrived at tbw, but they also managed to squeeze it into their busy day. of course, it would have been good if they'd remembered to re=-attach my rear brake...
Anth - hope that explains why I was focussed on my riding...

in Team Banana glory
To be precise, in random second-hand Team Mallorca Swiss Brewery (I forget which) glory

"hope that explains why I was focussed on my riding"
I'm sure you always are...

Tom - I spotted just such a bike this morning locked to a railing in Dalkeith Road. May even have been the same one, otherwise it could signify the start of a trend..

"Was that you that left your bike on the curb/protruding into bike lane while photoing the meadows?"
Not guilty. I was actually chasing down a couple of carbon fibred roadies ahead (and catching them). Of course they were probably then off on a 50 mile chaingang or something.
Did think about photographing the sunning masses in the Meadows, may well do so tonight, but to be honest I'd always shift off the road (and have done when I've been doing similar).
Posted 12 years ago # -
Didn't think that was you. But, as noted, I was a teeny weeny bit focussed on the bike....

@Tom, I presume a Halfords special? Or maybe the owner bought it online and didn't know which way round to put the forks? Had it been my spot, I would have whipped out my multi-tool, loosened the steerer, put the forks the right way round, then attached a note: "Fixed that for ya".

chdot heading out west along Stenhouse/Broomhouse. Not sure who gets this one; we double-taked at the same time, I think.
Posted 12 years ago # -
@crowriver, The way I wield a spanner I wouldn't have been doing them any favours. I was tempted to leave a note though. Yep, must have come in a box with the bars rotated.

True.
