Spot central on the way home:

Steveo in Dalkeith Road being cut up by a driver swerving into the bus lane.

Pair of bike polis in Infirmary street talking to a guy.

Possible Instography in North Bridge/Chambers St junction

RLJ on a fixie round the corner from the museum. Clearly thought he was too cool for red lights. Caught up with him as I went round the corner to MMW where I see him vanish down middle meadow walk texting, no hands on the handle bars at all. He looked like a caricature of someone who has seen one too many youtube videos of New York bike messengers.

Absolutely gorgeous girl on an absolutely gorgeous bike, laughing at the gravity and perpetual headwind of Comiston Road as her perfect thighs machined her onwards and upwards with balletic grace.

Through a red light. At a pedestrian crossing. With three tiny kids crossing.

And to think I loved her. http://xkcd.com/304/

Sorry Andy. I admit I was having a laugh with Glen. A wee boy was catching up his mum & 2 older siblings. He was called Harrison & I remarked that I wonder if his siblings were called Inverleith and Holyrood?

*poorly dubbed* Your nerd-fu is weak, DaveC.

If your mastery of the virginal arts were strong, you would have wondered if his siblings were called Mark and Carrie.

Denholm and John Rhys are also acceptable.

Spotted Roibeard late this afternoon, in Edinburgh Bicycle. I was in a vague sort of queue and attempting to pay for more of Endura's finest, by which time I'd missed the chance to say hello.

@Arellcat - apologies for missing you, I was clearly much too focused on gear cables...

That said, I've now got that "new bike" feeling - new chain, cables and cassette!

Roibeard, with recumbent stoker, just before 10am this morning, Mayfield Gardens or thereabouts, heading north. Sorry I couldn't stop to chat, was on my way to join a CTC ride, having been dropped on a hill after 45 mins approx. of this morning's Portovelo ride, somewhere around Bonnyrigg/Lasswade. Subsequently joined Claggy Cog of this parish and others on a much more gentle ride, where there was plenty of time to chat. Well that is, until I had to turn for home, I was expected for lunch.

I wondered why a blue transit was giving me a friendly wave / peep, until I got round the corner that was. I cannot claim the spot, however, as one blue transit very much like another to me!

Certainly looks like him. By the way, do you shoot RAW all the time?

I think I had a recumbent passenger rather than stoker, but had fun none-the-less!

Clearly I'm being too visible with so many spots, really must get that invisible bike...

Yip, Photoshop becomes a nice digital darkroom with RAW - I just like having the flexibility it gives.

Spotted Anth heading down North Charlotte Street as I headed up to make a dodgy right turn into Charlotte Square for the home run. Late recognition on both sides only allowed a short nod and smile.

  19. Yep, I only spotted you because I was turning to check the traffic behind! Must wake up on the bike!

    Better pic of Councillor Burns...

Facial and bicycular recognition circuits kicked in just in time to give a wave to fimm as I made my way into town after work today. Somewhere around Gorgie I think, but I can't quite remember.

@Arellcat you were proceeding sedately up the Dalry Road into a headwind as I was whizzing the other way downhill with tailwind. Given that your ride is very distinctive, it took me longer than it should have done to recognise you! I got the earlier train today - normally I'm about 15 minutes later.

Also - on Saturday I spotted two sets of cycling policemen - one pair heading along the canal just by the Leamington lift bridge (passing a man on a bright orange tandem with a small girl stoking and an even smaller boy in a child seat), and the other pair in the vicinity of Evans. I'm pretty sure it was two different pairs as one of the first pair was wearing longs while the second pair were both in shorts.

More surprisingly, I passed a pair of cycling policemen in Livingston on my way to the station this afternoon.

Tadpole trike coming down Drumbrae about 6PM. Having just pulled out of Drumbrae Drive. Not anyone I recognise having spotted before. Gent. Beard. No helmet. Glasses.

Mrs Folding Featherberet (the one who works near SRD) who pulled away past the advanced stop line slightly before the lights started to change. She then walked around the corner at the next set and didn't shoulder-check before remounting and setting off.

As I arrived at my lock-up garage yesterday evening, I noticed a neighbour working on a most unusual human powered vehicle: a recumbent quadracycle no less. Hydraulic disc brakes (which were what he was working on), and complete with fairing. It's designed for displaying advertising billboards, a bit like those vans you see driving around. Here are some pics: click for the bigger versions.

I chatted with him but was useless with advice for fixing his hydraulic discs, other than to send him TBC wards (it's nearby). However, he mentioned there was another interesting vehicle art the back of his garage: an old cargo trike with rod brakes, again adapted for billboard carrying. I think it was single speed/fixed by the looks of it, but can't be sure. Here's a pic (again click for the bigger one).

Apparently he has no need for this any more, and wants rid. I think he would hope to sell, but might be open to offers. Anyone here interested? If so let me know and I'll put you in touch. I'm not on commission or anything, just trying to be a good neighbour.

Spotted: Not strictly Edinburgh but... LaidBack sold a metallic red TerraTrike tandem rec collapsible to a nice couple in Cumbria in January? Met them in Kirkstile Inn, Buttermere on Sunday past whilst on a Mountain Rescue exercise with Cockermouth MRT. They were lunching and very pleased that they could climb the Lakeland single track 'struggles' without falling off at 0.15mph. A few fit crumblies about on very light road machines too!

Kim heading toward the Pleasance, sans bike.

I was southbound and nodded to a handsome, suited pedestrian, racking my brains for why they were familiar...

Nearly two hours later, my perfidious grey cells finally return the answer - I blame the suit for the delay! I was certain I should be flicking through the mental filing cabinet for Uni senior management or researchers, not cyclists...

It's some machine. Get reports from them every so often. Has 27 speeds but can never have low enough gears in Lake District.

I was returning from a swap/goodbye with Stephdoh, so if you noticed the second rear mudguard, you weren't hallucinating; it was just too long to fit in my bag so I clamped it on above the other one. As it happens, I've done more rush hour riding in the centre this last three days than since the start of the year.

I'd forgotten just how much faster the bike is, especially when as in Melville Drive, the lane is actually clear. I never see that on my Slateford-Gyle runs.
