I had bike jealousy this morning whilst admiring the gorgeous tandem with mini-person stoker seat being locked up at the covered bike sheds at potterow this morning. Looks very hard to park though!

Shouted gaun yirsel Kappers at Kaputnik as he cycled through the Olympic crowds. Just after that the blue Samsung quad bikes arrived. Ages later all the sponsors piled in then a very smiley Chinese man tok the torch and a bit later a young woman arrived with her torch and the flame was passed on. The first athlete then headed off towards ASDA

Gembo where were you? I was dragged to watch it at the Chesser Hutchison junction where they swapped to another chap.

Gorgie road Chesser ave junction the athlete was not setting a blistering pace.once you finish your bit they turn your flame holder off for ever. For inexplicable reason my mum brought me a candle lighter back from puerto pollensa. You press the button and a flame appears I am going to replicate the relay, I have several blue Samsung pointless inflatable tubes

An Olympic sized promo between Coca Cola and Walmart.
Next stop Bank of Scotland. Interesting promo there. Not really commercial in any normal sense.
The real winners this evening in the 'pass the giant lighter' event were the local fast food businesses.
Also good for some local businesses and CEC overtime
The flame is having a well earned rest tonight at a Travelodge.

I was appalled by the number of vehicles and crass advertising. What sort of carbon footprint??!! and just rather pointless, if they at least passed a torch on from one person to another, that might be worth watching.

Certainly a juxtaposition with de coubertin's thinking the coca cola staff were all smoking in the bike shed at Asda later on too. Shocking. But well organised relay, quite a few bikes involved, had a good laff in the crowd claiming the route was changed to avoid Gorgie so the flame didn't catch legionaires

Of course many 'cycling' sport events burn even more fossil fuel. Each TdF rider has to balance his human power against helicopters (be drones this year maybe), motorbikes and a cavalcade.
It's one of these contrary things...

Arellcat on recumbent bruntsfield place ... yesderday? or the day before?
Posted 12 years ago # -
Might well have been yesterday, recombo; I think I'd turned right out of Gilmore Place and went straight up the hill towards Bruntsfield.
Though I lose track because I'm always changing my route home to suit the weather, the tram works, the occasional biological incident, the shopping list and so on.

I think my deciphering was "an ugly bike? Airnimal make ugly bikes!" I note they don't specify wheel size. Looks a bit 650 to me, but can't be sure on such an odd-looking frame.

@kaputnik & Min - A quick search reveals it to have 24" ISO 520 wheels.

Ah, that is what I thought.

I saw an Airnimal Joey up close in Kirriemuir a couple of weeks back. Quite a nice machine.

SRD at reds along Gilmore. Then SRD steaming up said road like she was on half as much bike as Helios weighs.

Uberuce'ss too much of a gentleman to say 'like a woman half her age' not to mention 'mutton dressed as lamb'.
Posted 12 years ago # -
Women half your age are too busy forging IDs and fawning over Robert Pattinson to cycle like a boss, shurely?
I did notice you were more sartorially technical than I've previously seen you, but given the aforementioned nippiness up the road, I think you're safe from accusation of ovine deception.

A few flocks of cycle couriers, including one guy with a blue spiral bottle holder.
*covets*

I had to administer a telling off to a group of cycle courier types in the rain on Friday night coming the wrong way down the Forrest Road cycle lane and blocking me in (buses and traffic in car lanes also blocking anyone from going around). They seemed more intent on continuing to ask "where is alleycat" in broken engrish than try to decipher "I don't know and you're going the wrong way" into their native tongues.

our very own chdot gunning down the north bridge on a lovey blue replica of the fourth rail bridge (moulton). We were wondering where he'd got too.

"down the north bridge"
Southwards?
Posted 12 years ago # -
It was my sombre cyclechic that did it, Min. That and the fact my bike was a few hundred feet away.
