Came up behind a guy, unbeknownst to me, putting up signage for the mass cycle ride next week. Stopped to ask him if he was lost as he was riding very slowly round Roseburn. Apparently he was looking for good posts to en-sign.

Mr SRD and mini-mini-SRD as I trundled along Gilmore Place. Filled him in on my teenager collision calamity and then let get on with the sproglet-wrangling. I like Mr SRD, he's a good chap.

Unicyclist, progressing across London Road up onto Montrose Terrace. On the carriageway. Five minutes ago.
Maybe one of those folk who come up to Edinburgh for the festival and decide to stay? ;-)

Some years ago I saw a unicyclist on Princes Street - on the road - in the dark - with lights attached to his person so you couldn't compain about that.

Forgot to list these two: I think Spytfyre in a Triumph Spitfire, Sunday lunchtime. Friendly beep and a wave from a bald/closecropped man in said device, anyway, but I didn't get a great look at the face.
Mr SRD again, now in serious competition with Clive Dunn and Nelly to be my stalker/stalkee, although Nelly's working hours must be different since I haven't seen him in ages.

@uberuce
Got it in one.
Promotion means working hours = whatever it takes, so not as simple as my old 'in early, home early'
Grrrrrr

Bumsy. I'm normally in from 6.10, so if you're still up for that Day One show'n'tell flyby, we'll swap phobiles and you can text me en route?
In other news:
Possible ARobComp spot at the foot of Shandon, turning right along Slateford. If not, then man of similar build and facial structure.
Posted 12 years ago # -
Depending if that was today - possibly not as I was riding from Newcastle South along the N1 to Hartlepool...
Must be another big assed cyclist out there!Posted 12 years ago # -
team spam heading east around Shandon tonight 5.30

Anth heading eastbound on Melville Drive around half five?

Nelly at Scotmid Marchmont 6.45. Was late heading home...

Laidback, twice in one week. Was that your usual ride?
Was just stocking up on beer, amazing what you can get in a carradice.
Posted 12 years ago # -
The green one. Yes... is useful and has kickstand. Back bag can only carry four beers but I do have a trailer hitch!
Scotmid refit part financed by LB!Posted 12 years ago # -
I managed to spot the intersection of Anth (along Melville Drive) and Dave (MMW onto Argyle Place) and avoid being spotted by both, despite being in best SPAM top. I had cut up Leaminton Walk and then onto the shared path from Melville Place to Argyle Terrace.
Then I went to Homebase after dropping off things to make pannier space, where I encountered a Danish chap and his Guvnor outside. It was the 3-speed version and we had a nice chat about his very fetching copper mudguards. Handsome, but must have weighed something as looked like they were rolled out of a sheet of copper about 4mm thick. He was also pointing out that his Revolights were a Danish invention and that everyone should have them.
When I came out there was a rather cool looking black Bob Jackson Reynolds 631 track bike in the next Sheffield Stand. I must confess though that I thought the whacking great plastic crud-catcher mudguard on the rear wheel kinda spoilt its minimalist looks.

I just noticed that I was spotted myself not long before Spotting Dave / Anth. Perhaps one day we should get a map, plot our usual commute routes on it and see where they all intersect. Then have some sort of baton relay one morning.

There aren't that many people on the forum. This is getting intense!

kaputnik, assuming this was evening? I might have you on video! ;)

Wilmington and Bike Chain in close succession going in opposite directions along Lothian Road, so they might have spotted each other too.
Posted 12 years ago # -
Spotted Wingpig's head at the very last moment (and the tail end of a wave I think). Didn't spot the Bike Chain however :(
I've not had what might be classed as a good morning today and from here on in it only gets worse, so I'm not entirely with it*
*more than usual

I'm not sure the pace I achieve could ever be described as bombing :D

Aha! Was it you coming the other way on a Brompton? I wondered it if was Greenroofer (I wave at cyclists because I'm friendly like that, but as we passed I thought I recongnised the Brompton rider. I am terrible with names and faces. Really, really bad.)

Was it you coming the other way on a Brompton? Indeed it was, enjoying the tailwind for once ;-)

Me too, I have to confess I tend to recognise vehicles before people and once I do see a face I know I normally have that horrible panic as I try desperately to remember where/when I know them from :-oPosted 12 years ago # -
CCE makes it doubly tricky as everyone seems to have two names :D
Posted 12 years ago # -
Greenroofer is a triple threat for me; I hope you (and indeed the rest of the CCE parents) are happily resigned to the fact that as soon as you release your kids to nursery, school, daycare, sports clubs, anything of that ilk, your identity is forever reduced to that of an apostrophe and Dad/Mum after the name of said offspring.
That is in no way a confession that I can't remember your actual name, of course. That would be rude and unforgivable of me and I would never be so absent minded.
Actually, I've mentioned my theory that you meet cyclists twice, regardless of nomenclature: once hunched over drops in shades/helmet/lycra, and once upright and bareheaded. Different animals they.
Posted 12 years ago # -
@Smudge, well that was a good spot, given that you've only seen me in Brompton mode and I was, as you say, out in my lycra... I assume that isn't a usual route/time for you, as I've been manageing to do the long commute twice a week recently and I would notice a Brompton (if not its rider...)

A thursday morning route for me commonly, though normally about 15 minutes earlier(ish)!
Will keep an eye out for you in future :-)Posted 12 years ago # -
Ah, which day I do varies quite a bit. Thursdays are reasonably common, though, and that was my usual time, I would guess. I will also keep an eye out. :o)
