Leith Walk - next stage (still ongoing and going on…)

People don’t actually think Leith Walk is the worst cycle lane in the world, yes? It has two particularly bad sections at bus stops but on the whole it’s fine.
The other two Edinburgh examples in the “13 Worst Bike Lanes in the World” don’t even exist anymore with one being taken during construction.

Is it the worst cycle lane in the world adjusted for construction time and cost though?

It's certainly one of the worst surfaced cycle paths that has the temerity to call itself a bona fide cycle path.

Must be a contender for worst purpose-built cycle path though. No publicity is bad publicity and all that.
“ Because, after I cycle down Leith Walk - the worst cycling lane in the world - within minutes I end up down a peaceful, disused railway path. It’s been transformed into a bike path, and it’s truly beautiful”
That wouldn’t be the roseburn path the council are wanting to bulldoze for their other world-infamous modern follow the Tram?Posted 9 months ago # -
If I had the time I'd write a full snagging list!
It would be very long and I'd start from Leith Street, as staggeringly there seems to be several different 'standards' applied to the detailing
At Leith Street I believe 'Spokes Porty' came off because the lozenge pattern guidance tactiles (normally used for the edge of a TRAM (not train) platform) had been used at the edge of the cycleway pavement, rather then the shaped kerbs (30°batter 50mm high), with are sporadically used further down towards Leith....
The angular corners, substandard widths & especially the hand laid tarmac.....

I would agree. The cowboy tarmac is the worst part of the whole debacle. It changes it from a slow confusing ride to an uncomfortable, bordering on painful, ride.

because the lozenge pattern guidance tactiles...had been used at the edge of the cycleway pavement
Was this issue subsequently corrected? I haven't used the cycle lane enough to have noticed, although I am normally one for playing I Spy With My Big Beady Eye when it comes to tactilery.

I like the defects, they slow you down to gentle pace except deliveroos. I would like down the west side up the east side to happen.

Hi there, The team have responded and advise that the cones have been placed in the cycle lane for several reasons. Firstly, the cycle lane was being used incorrectly due to delays in the Leith connections works, which were supposed to integrate with the tram works.

Were there any other reasons. Or context to this?

Well they never posted 2/2!
(Or deleted it.)

Oh they did but they did it wrong:
2/2. Additionally, there were missing stopline markings for cyclists. These issues led some cyclists to misinterpret the signals, potentially causing conflicts with motor vehicles turning left onto Great Junction Street. Thanks. Joanne.
The Muskrat's "improvements" to Twitter have made it quite hard to follow threads but if you visit

you will see all replies in context, albeit out of order

Thanks, one of the changes the chief twit made while reducing the value of his asset was to stop non members viewing threads. We are now only allowed to see the single post that is linked.

Yep. Only post threadreaderapp threads if you want people to see the entire thread
