Just accidentally ordered an extremely cheap cosmetic second Planet X road bike frame (at considerable saving even over second hand frames that have featured here recently). Will be stripping the parts bin to get it on the road...

I'm not really sure what I want to do with it apart from Strava segments. Need something to keep me physical until I get back into audax (which needs time and a new recumbent), but I do love making bikes either way, so that's probably enough.

It's true though, the Olympics is selling bikes.

Very nice. What colour will your bits and pieces be?

Mainly silver I think, as the band on the downtube is silver, not white (I'm usually a sucker for black parts, not silver, but who knows).

Apparently will arrive tomorrow, in practice meaning it will sit and taunt me for even longer before I can put together all the parts...

Yes, I just had a covering letter from Ribble with a couple of chains I ordered apologising for the delay as they've received unprecedented orders since Wiggins won the Tour.

  7. Similarly, sorely tempted by a metallic red On One Macinato. Hovering.

Strangely, I got a message yesterday from someone I can always count on for an anti cycling argument, asking where to buy a second hand bike in Edinburgh! Either he's finally seen the light, or decided to take up arson?

@Baldcyclist: I had the same thing! One of my colleagues who disagreed with most of the PoP campaign, has started to take an interest... she was quite tempted to come along to the bike breakfast (and she still has one of the breakfast bike ride posters up above her desk).

Anyway, she's currently in Germany for ~4-5 months, and said something like "If we had bike lanes back in Edinburgh like the ones in Germany, even I'd ride a bike" - progress :D

Then, more recently she's said she'll be getting a bike when she gets back (in September).

Anyway, I feel I should help her on this enlightened path. I'll have to find out a bit about what she's after: cost, asthetics, purpose... I'm guessing she'd want a nice looking bike (chic?) but is also a student so will not have loads of money to throw around. I think it'll mainly be commuting ~2-3 miles that she'll be using it for (depending on if she moves to where she's hoping to). With a bit of a hill on the way.

Maybe a selection of possible bikes/styles, to help people figure out what to do :D

Yes, I recommended the shops mentioned in the blog, even offered to check anything out he fancied etc.

Spotted this while perusing the Soul Cycles site on his behalf..

Oh no, don't have a single speed....

EDIT: How do you make the image not spill over the page?

Now I just have to get everything back into the box and wrapped well enough to return on the trailer...

Supposed to be auto, but seems to have stopped working.

I've made yours clickable for full pic.

Eastside Bikes has a better selection of new Raleighs methinks. Some nice second hand stuff too.

Mr fimm rides a Planet X frame just like that, made up with parts from the old bike on which the frame cracked.

That's a nice looking frame. I have a set of wheels looking for a frame.
