Anyone planning on entering the
Folding bike race?
I see it's gone up from three to five laps.
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

Anyone planning on entering the
Folding bike race?
I see it's gone up from three to five laps.
If i had a folding bike *sigh* Thought i looked quite dashing cycling through embra yesterday in my suit, slightly chic-er than my usual get-up. Almost got odder looks from drivers than I did when be-lycraed.
Already entered. :-)
It just says that BCF members are insured. I thought CTC membership covered race insurance too.
I'm only missing two things - a folding bike and any semblence of fitness. I'll probably go and watch though - it was good last year.
I'm not entirely sure what "business attire" means but looking at the photo's from last year the interpretation seems to be quite loose.
Some made more effort (to adhere to the spirit of the rules) than others...
It was definitely too hot for jackets!
I'm in two minds. I took part last year (as chdot's first-of-three-pics above proves). It was great fun, and I'd consider it again (even considered finding and buying a cheap secondhand folder for it). But I also fancy getting a photographer pass thingy again and documenting it instead.
Would I wish I was competing?
I think I might give it a bash this year, should be fun.
Got around to entering at last.
Better start practising unfolding the bike...
Yaay, Race ya!
And just to remind y'all of last year's fun and frolics, there's the Nocturne Series 2009 Flickr group (including, but not limited to, much Edinburgh foldingness).
I think I'm going to limit myself to spectatorship this year - after cc goes online this Friday I'm taking a few weeks break from thinking about writing about cycling!
Does anyone know what time the race starts? What time did it start last year? I may not be able to do it after all. :'-(
There is a Dahon Speed Pro TT up for grans to the winner worth a cool £1500.
Check out some of the Folding Bike action from Smithfield this weekend
We still need riders
Did i imagine that or did some of those folders have drop bars?
"We still need riders"
If anyone on here wants to borrow the Birdy Anth used last year, it's available.
Looks like more people followed the 'dress code' in Smithfield than in Edinburgh last year.
Yes well I did my bit on the dress code last year!
There's a big part of me remembers the fun of taking part, but 5 laps instead of 3? And my fitness has gone backwards. And sundry other excuses.
I will wish I was taking part - but I think instead I'll look at getting a photographer pass...
Aye, you've been talking about doing the photographer role a few times. You do have that whizbang camera now, after all. :-)
Exactly! All fancy and professional me now like... :P
(actually, I'm going to be doing a wedding in September for a friend of a friend - that's gonna be nerve-wracking!)
We have revised the laps to 3 laps. Not sure why we had it at 5 - that would hurt.
One of the competitors in Smithfield was dressed as Wolvering - think they were on a stag party!
"We have revised the laps to 3 laps"
Woohoo!
<happy>
Nocturne - do you know many laps does each person does in the team event?
The team event is made up of four stages. The first three are 2 Rollapaluza sprints and a lap time trial and one team meber competes in each one. For the final team relay each rider will race one lap
So who's heading up on Saturday? Should it be the inaugural, should be good fodder for the Spotted thread.
Well you should be able to spot me as I'll be in the team event representing the City of Edinburgh. This is a bit like telling people your sitting your driving test - you just shouldn't mention it until afterwards in case it goes pear-shaped. But it should be great fun.
Picked . . . and then dropped. A couple of riders with more race experience have been found. Ah well. Let's see if they can improve on last year's last place.
"should be good fodder for the Spotted thread"
I'll be on a red Birdy. You'll probably be able to identify me by my position near the back, or at the back.
Min, you racing or not?
