Refreshing set of comments underneath. One from a CCE'r.

It just says comments aren't open when I look. Or is that what you mean??
I was worried by the title as I thought it would be another bike hatred article but surprisingly not! I am impressed by the ERC membership actually doubling after 2008.

ERC: pretty impressive for a splinter group of former CTC Lothians members!

From the old CTC Lothians DA / ERC records I've leafed through, I think the amicable splintering happened back in the 50s, so they've had a bit of time!
I think they've also been helped by demise of other local clubs, whose members moved into ERC as the smaller clubs dissapeared.
They're big enough to have formed at least one splinter club of their own in recent years (Velo Club Edinburgh), by a group more intent on all-out road racing than the more multi-discipline ERC.

Was it just me, or were there noticeably more riders on the Roseburn path (and, I suspect, elsewhere) on Wednesday? Rather reminiscent of the outbreak of impromptu tennis matches that usually follows a Wimbledon final. Nonetheless, it's good to see and, IF it is sustained, would be nice for the infrastructure to be further improved to cope with the burgeoning ranks of the lycra brigade (and other, non-technical-clad riders...).

IF it is sustained
Well the late outbreak of summer weather will certainly help. Once the rain starts again, expect to see most of those folk back in their cars/buses.

Have definitely noticed an increase in the number of folk braving the streets of Glasgow recently, even despite the recent 'glorious sunshine'...
Long may it continue.
