Hi folks. Met Danny MacAskill the other day for an interview. He had this to say about bike lanes:

"I've been really inspired by the success of Sir Chris Hoy, Bradley Wiggins and the whole team at the Olympics.

"It's a brilliant time for cycling in general and hopefully we start to see some benefits from that. I've not cycled around Edinburgh for a while but cycle lanes anywhere are a good thing. Anything to make it safer."

Aye! I remember seeing him cycling along Princes St a few years ago and thinking - that's the bravest thing I've seen him do.

What Keith Brown needs is a compilation of cycling superstars all saying the same thing: increased participation needs safer infrastructure.

Quote Instography, "What Keith Brown needs is a compilation of cycling superstars all saying the same thing: increased participation needs safer infrastructure."

What Keith Brown needs to do is start using a cycle, driving a car (instead of taking taxi's) driving busses and driving HGV so he has a better understanding of transport. This is highlighted in 'Back to the Shop Floor' program.

Yes, but he has a chauffeur. He is a Minister after all....clearly he wants everyone to know it too.

The day we have a transport minister who thinks of either walking or cycling or taking the bus the 2 miles from Holyrood to Victoria Quay, the sooner we might get some progress.

I think what Insto was suggesting is someone makes such a video to send to Keith Brown which may, who knows, lead to better cycle infrastructure and therefore Keith doing all those things you mentioned.

Not that Keith Brown himself should make such a video...

I wasn't think of a video necessarily but if he takes the views of cycling heroes seriously then showing that they all say the same things might have some impact.

I wouldn't expect a Damascene conversion but it just needs constant chipping away at.

All they found of him was a muddy set of prison clothes, a bar of soap, and an old rock hammer, damn near worn down to the nub. I remember thinking it would take a man six hundred years to tunnel through the wall with it. Old Andy did it in less than twenty.

  10. I now have a lovely image of Keith Brown walking into a bikeshed and finding a tunnel behind a poster of Victoria Pendleton leading to a sunny segregated bike path to Mexico...

Have to say, though you didn't mean the way I interpreted, I like the ideo of a headshot video. Kinda like the finger clicking Bono vid from a while back - simple, straightforward, single message.
