People looking for an alternative may like to give Timberyard a go.

Will be opening at 8:00 from September for coffee, pastries and light breakfasts.

With an internal (outside) courtyard if the weather holds.

Lots of railings across the road, though it should be OK to take in the odd 'too expensive to leave on the street' bike.

Also chance for a bit of art/wildlife spotting.

    "but where is it?"

    Good question!

Clearly their web site needs updating!

The opening has been delayed at least twice (I think it's officially Saturday).

    Lady Lawson Street.

    Used to be Lawson's Timber.

Opposite this (with railings in between).

it was a sad day when they closed. Same set up since it opened decades back, cellar, roof space etc. cut you any size of wood. I spotted the work ongoing couple of weeks back and didn't realise it was going to be a cafe. I will check this one out for sure.

chdot, yes - good location, might be do-able as alt to PY.

Gembo - agreed, was a great place - nothing like it exists now, classic use it or lose it scenario (same applies to LBS)

lawson's moved to Bankhead but just not the same. The family behind the restaurant ran Blue and Atrim at the traverse which were pricey but good and very pricey but good respectively, only ever ate in atrium once before children but the night we were in they won a prestigious award and we all were given a free glass of bubbly. There is mention of copenhagen in the list review so maybe the wood burning stove will be a Morso?

    "served in the entrance cafe"

That's presumably the entrance corridor with a few tables. I think a 'PY" gathering would fill them!
