MOBILE speed cameras will be operating at a several new locations across the Capital and Lothian this week.

In Edinburgh, the Safety Camera Partnership (SCP) will place cameras along Muirhouse Parkway, A90 Cramond, West Granton Road and A70 Balerno.

Average speed cameras are also in operation on the M9 at Junction 1A and on the M9 Spur where a reduced 40mph speed limit will be
enforced.

In West Lothian cameras will be in place on the A89 Armadale, A71 Polbeth, A899 Deer Park, A706 Cairnie Place, A706 Longridge and A705 East Whitburn. Also in East Lothian on the A198 Castlemains, B1345 Fenton Barns and B1377
Mungoswells.

A spokesman for the SCP said: “Motorists heading south are advised to remember that the Safety Camera Partnership operates a route strategy on the A1 meaning that the mobile safety cameras can be deployed at any location along these roads.”

The deployment schedule may also be subject to change according to operational
priorities.

Good. I take the entropic* view of road safety: it only takes one bad driver to make the roads dangerous. So the more that can be done to remove them the better.

*It takes a lot more energy to maintain a system than it does to break it. Take a barrel of wine and a barrel of sewage. Add a spoonful of sewage to the wine and you have two barrels of sewage.
