I think I'll need to add a rear rack and a stand to my newly acquired (albeit slightly used ) Dahon Helios SL.

Is there anywhere in town that sells appropriate parts or can advise? Or will I have to go online ? Or do I not need specialist parts anyway?

You could jury-rig a Pletscher adjustable rack or similar. Otherwise there are Dahon specific rear racks. Biketrax may have one, if not it's online.

The 'Arc' rack/carrier is the standard issue, max. load 10kg. If you want more robust, then the 'Traveller' rack/carrier is designed for touring, takes full sized panniers up to 25kg I think.

    About £35-£40 IIRC.

Remember to consider heel clearance when rack purhasing/fitting. You may have to fit smaller panniers than planned and/or mount them as far back as possible.

Dahon Traveller with 38% off here: £34. (RRP £55). This is the best rack if you want normal panniers, as its design moves the load up and back compared to most racks for 20" wheeled bikes.

Thanks for that link. Not a bad deal, although I notice their free shipping cut-off is £35! Good price on alters nightvision jacket though....

Inner tubes? Couple of those will put you over the £35 limit...

Oh the Dahon racks are pretty well made. I bought a (Traveller) front rack made by them to fit to my 20" folders when I need more carrying capacity. Very nice and sturdy too: doesn't seem to be freely available any more though. I think some dealers are cutting back on Dahon stock? Dahon/Tern split a factor?
