Very nice, if one was not visually impaired! I cannot see what is what on her illustration of Auld Reekie, one due to the pastel shades making the print illegible and two it being about 6pt in the picture.

However, there is an overwhelming smell of excrement that emanates from Seafield and covers the whole of Edinburgh on some days. Also to the south of the city when muck spreading is going on in fields towards E Lothian/Midlothian the smell can be carried on the wind over the SE of the city. Nice!!

There's a much bigger version of the Edinburgh sensory map here.

    It features;
    Sand, sea, beach
    Brewery malt fumes
    Alkaloid opiates manufactory
    Boys toilets in primary schools
    Fish & Chip shops
    Zoo poo
    Cherry Blossom
    Newly cut grass
    Vomit

The latter seems to be the most ubiquitous!

Useful meeting with Council officials about Seafield Sewerage Works. Scottish Water must certainly do more to deal with continuing problems

Must check that the biscuit factory features, the smell persists over much of SW Edinburgh but it is very pleasant. I say to myself when I smell it Frying Tonight

It doesn't, I therefore think the whole thing smells a bit iffy to me (boys toilets in primary schools ????)

Sadly, if you go a wee bit further north-west from the biscuit factory you get the stench of the sheds from the battery chicken farm at Hermiston. Both the Novotel and the Premier Inn at Edinburgh Park are downwind from here. I assume guests have to keep their windows closed.

How about the all-pervading stink of motor fumes? Hard to smell anything else most times.

Smell from Burton's can be delicious, but teasing if you're hungry. It's normally possible to tell if it's Nice biscuit day (coconut and sugar smell), Jammie Dodger day (jam smell) or Tofee Pop day (caramel and chocolate smells)

We need a word for the sort of training incurred by riding up a hill behind a Firstbus or a particularly old taxi whilst holding your breath until it changes gear or a crosswind creates a temporary safe-to-breathe space.

Biscuit-factory-smell doesn't really make me think of biscuits, wild-garlic-smell makes me think of cycle paths on old railway lines and Seafield just reminds me of road in my parents village where the water treatment plant is.

The aroma of burgers cooking outside my office window for the last month has made me so hungry! Festival's mostly over now, and cooking of burgers seems to have stopped too...

Along with all the other smells on the Innocent (pigs' heads, burning cars etc) there's also the coconutty smell of the gorse, and the oatcakey smell of Nairns.
