    The £20 million De Vere
development will feature a 120-room hotel, a health and leisure complex and a conference centre. Facilities will include a
20-metre swimming pool, a restaurant, bar and Starbucks cafe.

The company is asking Edinburgh City Council for permission to build 270 parking spaces at the site due to its expected popularity.

I won't hold my breath for any new cycling facilities. The language used indicates the development is based around the car...

Oh great, another gym for people to drive to. Just what we need.

I think the architect just put a load of black legobricks on the desk and said "there, we've designed it"

Well, it would be in keeping with the area!

Yeah, expect even more cars to be careering round that roundabout. Will probably increase cycling safety by reducing cycling in the area even further..

@W.C. someone brought in a portable radio to the shower room at work. I let out a similar profanity when I heard Eastern BMW at Newbridge invite people to visit their "luxury car village".

Perhaps you could change your twitter handle to urbanvillagecyclist, or is that too many letters?

  8. I'd certainly be able to say less if people wanted to RT. Maybe this is a good thing...

  10. What's the reason behind 'Quartermile' in Edinburgh? (I'm assuming (hoping) it's a nostalgic term)

They probably thought it sounded "iconic"...

IIRC it is based on the distance of the pathway/vennel that threads through the complex to link up with one coming up from the Grassmarket past ECA to Lauriston Place. I think.

If so then it is at least meaningful...

I almost threw up when I last looked at OSM and saw that someone had renamed parts of Granton and Silverknowes to FORTHQUARTER. Some people shouldn't be allowed to use collaborative projects!

    I almost got it right:

    "Quartermile - Description
The project is named Quartermile due to the approximate diagonal distance across the site and due to being situated a quarter of a mile from both Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile."
