Okay, but can you tell me why the section on women is subtitled 'cycle-chic'? why not a section on cycle-chic? or a section on women? I don't 'get' why they are conflated.

Thanks for responding to the comments Carlton.

"While members of this, and other forums, tend to be died-in-the-wool enthusiast cyclists"

I think this forum is a bit more varied than that -

"I'm trying to reach out to the unconverted"

    So are 'we'...

    It's not easy!

Your book is a worthy attempt. (That sounds patronising - but it's not meant to be!)

I'm quite sure Richard Ballantine didn't have any particularly 'evangelical' intentions when he wrote his book, and he certainly wouldn't have anticipated the long term influence it has had.

"Not fair to say at all. 24 pages of ads in 98 page book. That's an ad/editorial ratio of 1:4, lower than most magazines (which you pay for, too)."

Must just be the format, (imo) full page ads seem fine in a glossy but more obtrusive on the web. Any way i'll try to avoid taking this thread into yet another tangent.

    Tangents are fine.

    It's hijacks that confuse.

SRD: Cycle chic is © CopenhagenizeCycleChic and is mostly pix of women on bikes.

Mikael of Copenhagenize has a piece in the book and lots of pix, too.

I wanted to avoid sectionalising women with a women's section of the book, ie from a text point of view. The 'women on wheels' multi-page spread isn't instructional, it's meant to be inspirational, with pix telling the story.

For a general bike book written by a woman, see 'Bicycle' by the Guardian's Helen Pidd. It's out soon. £14.99.

I read lots of mags online. Momentum Magazine has an Issuu.com version. I have no problem with the ads.

    a. I know it's paying for the mag b. I like looking at ads. They can be useful sources of info, not included in editorial.

Ads for Coca Cola would be intrusive in a bicycle publication, but ads for bicycles?

@chdot - yep, I am not died in the wool anything, I just use it as a means to get to work that is cheaper (and faster) than the bus and faster than walking, while gaining some much needed exercise along the way...

I have no problem with even moderately intrusive ads but ad's which block the flow of the editorial break my chain of thought, i find that its not clear what is editorial and what is advert with the ad format used in your publication, i can't comment on other web mags as i tend not to read publication in that format. I dislike the magazine format on the web it translates about as well as physical music sales, dying business model desperately trying to stay relevant against a relentless march of change.

Don't get me wrong i like both CD's and magazines but neither formats are ideal for the web.

Sorry every one, i'll shut up about the relative methods of making money on the web right now.

Thanks one and all, I need cheering up after 1 1/2 hours of teaching kids to cycle and they being over taken while I was signalling a right turn, by an idiot wanting wait at the red light 50m up the road for and extra 10 seconds, on my way home. Can we through in some views on helmets and Hi-Viz in cycle promotion. ;-)

What ever happen to no matter what you ride so long as you do?

I just want roads which are safe to ride on.

@Kim - It has something to do with webcams, pay per view and some tacky lounge music doesn't it?
