Come on - your folded bike is tiny, I'm sure you could squeeze your bag and coat in beside it!

On some trains they can fit between the seat backs but this can hold up the queue as you manoeuvre it into place.
I never leave on in the train luggage space. It would be too easy for someone to lift it just as the doors were closing.
Generally I head for the wheel chair area as there is more space.
