  1. This type of thing pops up quite regularly doesn't it? Editor of the luxury 'Richmond Magazine' writes about how much he hates cyclists, reverting to type after enjoying watching the Olympic cyclists (which ties in neatly with a cc article I was going to write today).

Not sure I can get too worked up about these things, save for if the subject of his homicidal thoughts was a racially alternative person (I may try to sell 'RAP' as a new politically correct term - I wonder how much of a charade I could create that it eventually got coverage in the Daily Wail?) it would basically be a hate crime of some sort (probably down the lines of incitement to hatred).

The magazine's cycle shop advertisers may not be massively amused.

Reported as a hate crime to the Met. Of course, it may not be, because cyclists aren't a minority protected by law...

Yeah, it's like an attempt to address his own cognitive dissonance in the manner of a Clarkson rant.

As an expression of how most non-cycling drivers feel about cyclists, it seems unusually accurate and honest, if not particularly amusing. Also quite neatly sums up the contradictory views towards sporting heroes/celebrities and ordinary 'in my way' cyclists.

Doen't bother me particularly, mind you I'm a cyclist, AND a dog walker, that puts me even below cyclists!

In all seriousness though, this is just a poor attempt at humour. If it doesn't float your boat, simply ignore it!

As I suspected, it's not a crime, in the Met's opinion, as cyclists aren't a protected group.

Interesting experiment - "the only good X is a dead X".

For certain values of X, that's a hate crime, for other values it's humour, and in some cases or contexts it could be threatening behaviour.

Ah, English, a language where meaning is so flexible.

Following his apology, we've offered to meet Mr Nye from @TheRichmondMag for a cycle in the borough http://richmondlcc.co.uk/2012/09/08/the… #cyclesafe
