I am of course no-one's idea of a competent commentator in such matters, but it would seem to me a better business model to have all of them in a range of colours and just not tell us that we're all paying an extra twenty notes or so for the priviledge.

But if they're manufactured in Taiwan then you'd have to have them delivered to the UK with only an undercoat and then have them finished to order. More than £20 and if you measure the impact in the loss of competitive position and the lost sales from higher pricing, the loss of a customer here and there who wants to choose the colour of their bike would be a fair trade-off.

It was a triumph of will to keep my mouth shut and hands and my credit card in my pocket.

My colleague dragged me out to the bike shop to look at road bikes the other week, before walking in he say "Don't let me walk out of here with a bike" I nearly replied with the same sentence.

Brompton charge £30 to choose from their extended colour range, but there's black/white/pink for free. Admittedly I've no idea how much they'd charge for the bike overall if there wasn't even that choice.

In the Equilibrium's case, it doesn't seem to me that they'd need to paint to order; there's presumably three lines in the paint factory already, so why not just take a few of the standalone frames that are all destined for the 30's line and send them onto the 00 and 10's?

Beyond my ken, and since I have a bike in a pretty colour en route, not my problem any more. Good luck, Smudge. *runs*

@Uberuce, just what I was about to post, no special painting required as they're already painting the frames in two other colours, just a decision to offer a choice that is lacking :-(

The deed is done; the card is smoking; my hallway is a gallery of modern art.

    "Pics?"

Think he's too busy just gazing.

And perhaps wondering which wall to hang it on.

It's not for riding is it?

    Seriously

Uberuce's series of bikes and different types of ride, documented since first post a year ago, has been most interesting - and entertaining.

    "
What put me off for years was the belief that Edinburgh cycling was too dangerous and too difficult.

    "

A 'new' cyclist coming to terms with traffic and bike sizes etc. etc.

I'm sure .cc will be looking for the full story.

I am sincerely glad no-one can see the way I'm looking at it right now. That is all.

"glad no-one can see the way I'm looking at it right now"

Perhaps you should cover it up.

There's probably a forum for that sort of thing

After a bit of new-Dad paranoia and a public failure to unclip*, I got round to taking a naturally lit picture of the Croix:

*In irony news, the multitasking it takes to catch a new bike with your inner thigh at the same time as catch yourself with one good hand and one mutant one is significantly more demanding than that needed to unclip in the first place.

The Brooks came off black fruity, so it's been broken in well, with a little CCE help; multiple Hilly Tuesdays, Anth's ride, St Abbs, the cyclocross jaunt and the sendoff with Portovelo.

Conversation with my sister as I swapped the saddles:
Claire: "So is that brown saddle comfy?"
    Bruce: "No."
    Claire: "...."
    Bruce *busy fiddling with clamp*
    Claire: "Okay, short answer."
