Don't know how many times I have reported/complained about this -

Don't think I've mentioned it on here.

    It's 'tram legacy'.

It's at the bottom of Gayfield Square.

It stops vehicles (unless they choose to drive over it).

It doesn't stop people on bikes, it just inconveniences them.

It's not compatible with a cycle-friendly city nor one that understands "permeability".

    Time for action.

I presume it is a 'permanent' replacement for this?

    ADMIN EDIT

When link was first posted, it showed what it used to look like. The StreetView car has been back again.

Hard to know what permanent means these day.

I thought the original idea was to 'traffic manage' while they were doing the tram work on Leith Walk...

There was a similar barrier (like that StreetView link) at the Great Stuart Street/Moray Place junction for far too long - with hardly any room for bikes. This has been replaced by bollards.

Bollards is probably what they should have done there, but maybe a reason why not? Police vehicles need to get across it perhaps?

Police vehicles would also need to be able to get over vehicles parked against it on the Gayfield Square side.

It actually used to be bollards at the bottom of Gayfield Square years ago. There used to be a gap in the middle just wide enough for a police panda car, so they could go in that direction to save time in an emergency. I know this because I once naughtily went through the gap in my old 1980 Mini (it didn't actually say you shouldn't) and a polite policeman requested that I not do it again. A no-entry sign appeared soon after!
