I've cheekily stuck my name down for this, but noted that I would understand if I were bumped for someone in a better position to make use of the info...

Is this open to the public?

I ask as I attended the Scottish Cycling Roadshow and was slightly embarressed when the board members all came round the (small group of 15) shaking our hands asking us who we were and if we were members of Scottish Cycling or British Cycling, to which I had to admit I was a member of neither....

    Doesn't say it's not...

I stuck my position down as "parent" and organisation as "Gormley household". I would have gone for the slightly more accurate "father", but I didn't wish to introduce clerical confusion...

No sign of an email for me - maybe I oversold the "give the place to someone more influential" line...

Oh, and I could have got the time off!

Woo hoo! Got a place. I'll need to wait until tomorrow to pick breakouts etc and think of my question for Keith Brown. Where's the CCE caucus having its pre-conference meeting? Peter's Yard?

"Where's the CCE caucus having its pre-conference meeting? Peter's Yard?"

    Perhaps closer to Haymarket?

Wonder what the bike parking will be like -

If I remember I'll check out the bike parking when I pass it this evening on my way home. Ironically, I may have to get the train on the day.

Cucina - on the stereo - Contemporary easy listening, light jazz. Nice.

I think that is the building where I was leafleting for Spokes last year. My recollection is that there is a rack of sheffield stands a little way along from the main entrance. Possibly also some railings etc. Probably a good day to take a folder if you have one.

I'm going too - picked Design and CAPS as my breakout session and asked Keith Brown if the target of 10% of journeys by bike was a serious one or if it would be quietly dropped when it proved too hard...

Given the limited places, I wonder how many actual councillors and officers and other actual implementers will be attending?

Re Bike parking - the Centre thinks they've got 6 racks, but the organisers are arranging temporary racks for the day...

The London one had a nice Dutch station-style two-tier rack temporarily installed. Also a 'cyclists dismount' sign at the entrance (cars and lorries could drive right in...

As it is the Dutch co-hosting and there is limited exhibition space, expect that there will be mainly Dutch exhibitors, but there are likely to be Falco 2-tier racks on display and for use.

Unlikely to see other manufacturers (shame) as Jan Kuipers make a neat on street residential parking unit, widely used in NL and have the contract to supply NS/Pro-Rail with lockers and stands.

The other manufacturer is Velopa who make the Tulip stand

Abellio Bike (UK version of OV-Fiets) may have a presence

I received no email so perhaps they felt that parents were not worthy of places?

To be fair, it's probably more important that council cycling officers, planning folk, road design teams, councillors, Transport Scotland officials attend. I guess the CCE folk who are going are mainly 'known' campaigners/lobbyists or work in transport/roads/sustainability?

It's the Spokes autumn count that morning...

I'm not sure if that means that attendees should travel along, or should avoid, Forrest Road and Lothian Road!

Dutch experts offer Scots cycling safety advice

Transport experts from the Netherlands and Scotland are meeting in Edinburgh to discuss ways of improving cycling safety. Dutch politicians and planners say traffic has to be slowed and cut in cities or separate lanes created to encourage more people onto bikes.

The Scottish government has set a target of getting 10% of journeys made by bike by 2020. Transport Minister Keith Brown will give a speech on progress made.

The number of cyclists injured on Scotland's roads is rising.
