Unsure if it was anyone on here or not but if you were the gent on the Focus bike that stopped to offer help with a puncture on Saturday morning near Fountainbridge all I can say is thank you, this is what makes cycling such a great sport, the camaraderie.
Now a quick question about commuting route. Looking to find a route thats reasonably quiet ( good luck) from Calder Road park & ride to Seafield Road thats suitable for a road bike. I was using the canal path with my MTB but after switching to full on roadie looking for something that wouldn't see me in the canal ( skinny tyres and canal path a poor mix). I have went along Calder road and Lanark road but at nights these are V busy so looking for something a touch more sedate.
TIA

Out of curiosity, I plugged that into the cyclestreets app, and -for the first time ever - it suggested the canal path. Irony or what? I frequently plug in places that I think would be bet reached via canal or NEPN, only to ave http://m.cyclestreets.net/journey/#4558857/balancedcyclestreets recommend 3 diff routes - none using towpath....

I would suggest:
Canal or scary-looking roundabouts to Cultins Road.
Thence onto Bankhead Drive's cycleobstacle coursepath until Broomhouse RoadFrom Broomhouse Road (which has a pointless name change to Meadow Place Road) onto St John's you can then power down the greenway.
At Roseburn Terrace you can either join the NEPN and cruise along at a stress free 15mph until Lindsay Road, or push through town on the more direct Haymarket-Leith Walk routes.
I was pleasantly surprised by how much time I didn't waste on the longer NEPN route. You never have to stop, so your average speed is deceptively high.

The stretch on the canal between Hermiston and cutlins road is less than a mile with only a couple of bridges to go under. As uberuce says you come off just after the Scott Russell aqueduct heading into town then fly down cutlins road. At the bottom and legally in the lane that allows you to turn right, turn right. After fifty yards hop onto the cycle path, surface better than road and obviously quieter, then take the roseburn path to leith, it is going to be a great route.
