CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

"Likes cake"
Its my special power, rubbish given my pal got x-ray vision...
S'funny, a year or two back I was in the depths working in this place and was looking round semi-seriously at total changes of career. Went so far as starting up a business plan for a combined bike shop cafe. There were premises available on Rose Street at the time.
The idea didn't last long...
How 'bout a co-op? I'll do the baking, and soup....
Walked past 'Look mum' yesterday and it looked really nice http://twitpic.com/1qky81 Rapha CC was a more serious looking prospect, more art/design/shop/cafe effort than a comfy place.
Both would be v. welcome in embra though. (as long as the coffee was up to my exacting standards, didn't have time to sample)
Great idea bike shop café, you could even hire out cargo bikes... ;-)
Cycle cafes are fantastic things - inevitable really, when you're combining espresso, cake and bikes.
Embra would really benefit from one. Like Anth, after a couple of nightmare weeks at work, it seems like a very attractive idea; then a combination of work easing off and the realisation of the hard work involved makes me ignore it. Maybe one day...?
oooh could we make it drive through?
fill the bottle with coffee and the basket on the front with cake so we can emulate our pedestrian chums marching to work with the starbucks and the cookie on the pedestrian crossing with the red man
I recently purchased & recommend a copy of "190 Cyclist Friendly Tearooms."
Saw a copy once last year in a teashop in Beadnell and realised it's quite difficult to get hold of, until you find this link:

It's focused mainly around the North of England, with occasional excursions to bits of Scotland and N.I. But there are reminiscences as well as some vintage photos that make it interesting even if you're not immediately heading that way.
I got mine direct from the man himself, personally signed. If anyone wants his email I can pass it on.
Advert over...
Sadly Dumfries & Galloway is a bit far for a day trip from here, we need similar book for Lothian and Borders (and Fife, and Falkirk...), anyone any ideas?

NY too -
Groan - even though I am cycling 500-600 miles per month in the summer, I can't get one cake per week to balance against my energy output. Still not losing weight...
Keep forgetting to mention this one -
http://www.list.co.uk/place/100968-two-thin-laddies
Almost equidistant between BikeTrax and MacDonald's with caged trees for bike parking. Food's wholesome and good valuel. Outside seating away from the traffic, quirky and comfortable inside, usually with an entertaining soundtrack.
Edinburgh cake trail updated

When I passed through Gifford recently I saw a new cafe. Just what this lovely village needed and well positioned for cyclists. Anyone tried it out?
New cafe in Gifford? It has been there for four years. "Love Coffee, Love Food", is a good cycle friendly cake stop, the owner say that cyclist are their favourite customers because they are always hungry and "always happy". Recommended!
Oh dear, I must have passed it a few times then. It will help me persuade my other half to cycle that far.
"We like to buy some cakes in the local baker whilst training, it's better than any manufactured bars" Mrs Cyclingmollie was told recently by Chechu Rubiera* so that's good enough for me.
*Chechu's most famous moment (at 1:15):
Cafe spotted and tested in Ormiston. A handy location for a ride in the back roads of East Lothian. All very reasonable priced but (shame :0) we didn't try out the cakes. Call Lily Valentines
"Flowers, coffee cakes and sweets all in one shop....Just what Ormiston needed!"
According to its own page -
Only needs to open up a bicycle section now.
Opening hours are wrong - they were open on Sunday.

I hear that Peter's Yard is good for early morning coffee enroute of your commute™

Cyclists like coffee and cake, there’s little doubt there. Becoming a cyclist means that you’ll become well known at the cafes in your area, but unlike being a regular at the pub at the end of your road, you’ll only ever go to cafes that are about 30 miles away from your house.

The villages soon started to fly past and after two hours and 25 miles it was time for our first pit stop in the town of Lauder. Quite what they thought of a group of people in brightly coloured Lycra descending on the place and eating them out of cake I don't know but they were very welcoming!
