  1. Saw the results of a driver not looking at lunchtime, on the crossroads of Morrison Street and Lothian Road. Looks like he'd managed to hit.... An ambulance*...

*note, only saw the aftermath, but looks like the car had gone into the side of the ambulance somehow - no idea if the blues and twos were on at the time. Bit of a mess, three police cars, and another ambulance, in attendance.

  3. It actually looked like the Mini may have come out of Bread Street (from the bus only contraflow), although the position was slightly odd, and there may have been damage to the ped barrier there. I would expect the second ambulance may have been there for pedestrians as well, although the Mini occupants won't have got away Scot free.

Not terribly nice (and I hate seeing these things on my commuting route, which sounds selfish, but it puts the wind up you).

So about a year or so ago I'm ambling along the by-pass from Gogarburn towards Hermiston at 50mp/h (50mp/h limit at this point), cruise control set and overtaking a Volvo estate doing probably around about 45mp/h. Up charges a hero in his Vauxhall starts flashing his lights, blasting the horn and sitting about 3 feet from my back bumper!

Complete my overtake and pull into the inside lane, off our hero sets, closely followed by the Volvo estate which goes straight for the outside lane and has him pulled over by the Sighthill on-slip.

Oh did I forget to mention that the Volvo estate was a Police Car... a *MARKED* police car dayglo, lights the works.

Conclusion some people should never be allowed in charge of a vehicle. If you don't notice a police car whilst behaving like a pratt, what chance has a child / elderly person / anybody got with you around?

  5. That's pretty much spot on twinspark (Alfa?).

Pic on the BBC site (may be the same pic as STV, but I can't view that) shows the front of the ambulance caved in, so looks more likely ambulance was carrying patient (according to the report), possibly with flashing lights etc, charging through the junction and Mini has pulled out in front of it.

All conjecture. But that junction, and one at Clerk Street, I see ambulances quite a lot, and often it's me holding the cars back who are perturbed as to why I'm not going (I've seen a few close calls).

The STV pic shows the mini with a great big smash in the side of it.
