Just spotted this, @amir, but can't do it as I'm going through to Glasgow to spectate at the National Road Race on the 23rd. Just thought I'd reply to register my interest for any future rides.

@WC The Crystal Run does look good but I'll be away

@ARobComp TBH we haven't really settled any details yet. I have had a little recurrence of my hip injury - I wanted to see how this weekend went. The other factor is noticing how many alternative events there are next Sunday - the National Road Race, the Arthur's Seat hill challenge. BTW did you want to do it as an audax? When's LEL?

@PS we should have some more rides in the future. I've got some virtual Brevet cards to burn.

I've been pondering the Crystal Run, but if I do enter may be a last gasp entry (closing date 7 July). Might be away with the family that week. Also have to see how I get on with the Cromarty Cruise this weekend......planning on riding the Saltire perm on 30 July too. May not manage a pass for another calendar event.....we'll see.

Amir - I'm more interested in the milage - anything that gets me out and in the saddle is good for me. I'm planning on riding as close to 2 300's this weekend as I can.

Okay - we can talk about routes later this week. I want to see how my hip is - I'm hoping it isn't a repeat of last autumn.

    @kaputnik & @earthowned are you still in?

I'm still game - got clearance from the boss for an all dayer. Lets wait and see if your hip is OK, that's the important thing. No sense in making the injury worse.

You can still go without me.

The injury is a little strange - it seems to get better with distance at the moment but when it hits powering uphill can be difficult. Last time though the physio said that I should do more rather than less.

Yes I'm free - but if we need to delay for one reason or another that's fine by me also.

I'm hopeful down for the Crystal Run - looks good.

When's LEL? London-Edinburgh-London is 28 July to 2 August. I've volunteered to help out at the Edinburgh control which is going to be at Gracemount High School. Work and childcare means I'll only manage a couple of evenings. Is anyone else planning on volunteering?

I'm down to help (evenings only) - not had any significant communication on this though, so who knows.

I'm gonna go for a big one this weekend anyway - temperature and wind should be ok so rain is the only sticking point. However I need to get some miles in and to do it in bad weather will only enhance my ability I think!

    Fingers crossed ;)

I'll decide (on my part) by mid-afternoon tomorrow. I don't see the point of doing a very long ride in grim weather. Any preference on routes?:
    Fife
South through Midlothian and the Borders
South-east through East Lothian and the Borders (into England?)
    Westwards
Round and round Arthur's Seat for 200 km

Okay, let's take a call tomorrow afternoon. I like the idea of Fife, not been through for a while.

I'm going to do a 200tomorrow in lothian+borders. Happy to join anything on Sun.

For me, the forecast tomorrow is too iffy to bother with a 200. So for that reason, I'm out. Hopefully I'll be able to sneak out for a ride sometime though. May go to Glasgow in the afternoon instead.

Hopefully we can arrange a 200 later on.

amir, we need to get this England trip organised. Next Sunday any good? Meticulous research has ruled out going via Bransly Hill or Oldhamstocks. So it's over the Rig to Chirnside/Honey Farm and home by Blackadder/Whiteadder.

I'm gonna go for a big fife loop I think. Setting off at 7 from meadows if anyone wants to come for a part/whole of it. Not decided exactly which one I'll do yet!

@cyclingmollie that would be good. I'll check with my OH when she gets back from holiday this week. Hopefully the weather will be good.

@arobcomp How did the ride go today? The weather was quite good in the end. I am still undecided tomorrow. I may go for an early ride and then go to Glasgow to see the races. Just in case, whereabouts in the Meadows are you starting from. I would give a tweet before I start.

@amir - I'll wait at the traffic crossing by the big playpark in the east side of the meadows at 7am stretching! But bang me a tweet if you want to come along for a cruise for a bit of it. BAsically heading over the bridges and up for a big one.

Todays ride was mixed. I think I'm suffering from some sort of riding depression - I know I have to get miles in but am a bit peed off with the weather basically did 100km then bailed back to Ed so did 150km so back before the rain then went to work and did a few hours then to the gym and did a 2 hour stationary bike session called Blender from the sufferfest - basically improving my ability to ride at threshhold for longer - this is useful for making sure hills don't tire you out etc.
I would count that as knackering as another 150km honestly so a good day!

All those who chose no today made the right bloody decision. Head wind for 210km of a 250 loop. The route plan said 1600m climbing - but the time my GPS died it was at 2500 and I still had a lot to go.

Frozen with wind and rain in face then roasted. I had some serious issues keeping hydrated. Didn't eat enough and in general enjoyed it weirdly.

I need to plan for sweating because I'm wearing a jacket. Also food - more food. All the food.

10 hours - 250km. I'm ok with that. I would have preferred finishing the 300 but I jut couldn't face it. will punish myself with a ride tomorrow instead.

Sounds a bit like you've caught a case of cycling fatigue - not so much physical as mental, bored of staring at the same old bike and same old tarmac for many hours on end. Think you need to add something into your rides to add a bit of variety - geocaching? A visit to an actual place mid-ride to give it a purpose beyond just getting the miles in?

Riding too much on your own is really hard. As in the change from sunny and dry conditions to wet and miserable.

I have no idea of the best training scheme for LEL, but is it necessary to do very long rides every weekend? Would doing some shorter but harder rides be an alternative?

@kaputnik - I sort of do that. Yesterday was meant to be a bit of a hard slog for 5 houors with an amazing being blown downwind for 4 - however the wind put paid to that (the reward there was the being blown downwind - this didn't happen)

I am keen to do more of that for example the plan origionally this weekend was to ride down to newcastle and back - unfortunately again the wind put paid to much of that as well as having to work on sat afternoon. I think I might start heading out on more rides "to" somewhere and also to start maybe using the trains a bit more!

@amir There is a bit of that for sure. I am happy with how I feel today. PMA and legs are not too tired considering. I have been doing a lot of HIT stuff during the week (40-50km a day hard) plus some really pushy 100kms. This is great as it gives me the power to be able to push hard like I did yesteday but it also isn't quite the same as sitting in the saddle. I sort of proved to myself yesterday that I am happy enough now I've got my saddle position right- of course on Friday when I get my new bike.....

Don't overdo it, that's where I went wrong before PBP. Instead of peaking for the ride my form crashed hard with knee injury...
