I've done Biggar-Innerleithen-Dunbar-North Berwick a few times as a DIY 200. I find the best way from Innerleithen is to follow the Saltire route then loop round the south of Haddington to pass Hailes castle. The rest is fairly obvious although you have the choice from Biggar of going over Dreva or the longer, flatter way via Dawyck.

DIY 200 last Friday (August RTYR ride) Home - Falkland - St Andrews - Tayport - Newburgh - Auchtarder - Kinkardine - Home. Fast to St Andrews but very slow into the wind from Tayport to Auchterarder, headwind was awfull!

Had a fantastic ride on the Erit Lass yesterday. Very good weather, although starting to get on the cold side early morning.
Fast ride in the peloton across to North Berwick, before the much longer haul down to Innerleithen. Had expected some tough wind resistance, but wasn't bad at all. Worst was on the downhill out of the Granites. The ford was interesting again, was all set to get off after going down last weekend, but the guys ahead were riding through and so I of course had to stay on, and made it through, but there was a crash just behind.
BLT at the Whistle Stop in Innerleithen then off east. Mostly new roads to me for this bit, and I followed a couple of the regulars assuming they knew the way and ended up missing the turn off and having to wait till Galashiels to head north. Caught the route again at Stow I think, then the first tough climb, very steep first section then a long haul up and over to Lauder before a long flatish section to Duns.
Just caught the last cafe closing, and hung out with a few others in the town square for a proper break before the Lammermuirs climbs. Not as horrid as I was imagining. The first is steep, over to Longformacus. The second is long, and keeps seeming to add bits when you think you're up it. The third isn't too bad, steepish short bits, but not so much of it. But gorgeous up there on a good day. Then the blast down, speed tempered mostly by potentially errant sheep, and the cruise back west to Musselburgh. Makes for a long last section and I was well ready for a stop by the end.
Finished alongside an Edinburgh RC chap who I suspect might be on here, then nattered in the church hall for nearly an hour and a half plied with soup, cake and tea by Mr and Mrs Cyclops. Very good day.

Dr A: "an Edinburgh RC chap who I suspect might be on here"
If you were one quarter of the "Forth and Tay Four" then that might have been me.
You pass, it feels too close
Your fictive race demands a rival.
I weigh your pace against my breath
burning legs, miles to go, survival.
We've not met, we've never spoken
you're a help and you're a hindrance.
Taking turns without complaint
work together, cover distance.
When I hear the angry wasp inside
your freewheel just behind me
take a rest, have a look
feathered brake before the dog-leg
knee to apex, weight to outside
take a sip, take a gel and I am gone.Posted 11 years ago # -
I should add: that's not a description of my encounter with you Dr Afternoon. It's made up.

Great day for the Three Glens 160k yesterday, and a lovely ride, although I got taught a tough lesson late on trying to keep up with the faster lot. I was on the head of a bunch against the wind on the flat somewhere between Bridge of Allan and Skinflats, chaps behind moved up and upped the pace. I didn't work enough to stay close and use the draft, and promptly lost them. Worked hard for a long time to keep them in sight but never caught them again.
Probably healthy to get a bit humbled when I'm starting to think I'm getting the hang of this lark.

Not as far as AUK is concerned. 2014 began on 1 October. (I know...)
