Thanks!
Is there a 'MapMyRide' page/GPS file?
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.
Thanks!

No, but I have mapped similar rides with Strava. Can those be exported?
Edit: Yes they can with a Premium account which I don't have.
RidewithGPS is a good website for mapping out future rides and then exporting them to a gpx file for upload to your GPS device. It also gives height climbed.
Thanks for that Dave. I will try that site.
I forgot to ask you, DaveC: did you get the points for that Newport/Auchertarder/Dollar DIY we did?
I'm considering organising a private running of the Tour of the Borders, I'm not paying £35 for a few signs and a cheap T-shirt besides its probably too soon for me. Most likely be a "summer" ride. Hopefully some of you faster guys will come along so I can bungee my self on for the hills!
@Steveo I'll try and count myself in - each to their own, but I've entirely given up on "sportives" where you pay large sums of money to ride on public roads...
There's also the Amir's 300 to be planned - perhaps that could be combined with Tom's Border Chimney Raid as planned last year?
@steveo Sounds good. I'm planning the ride to England in April or May. Last year the weather then was drier than in the summer. It would be interesting to do that as a 300k but I don't want to put people off with that extra distance (I would include myself in that list - don't want to fail to show up for my own ride).
Hi Bruce, Aye I got those points. The receipt in Crail had the wrong time and date, and the receipt in Newport should have been a bank recept but I learned a few important lessons.
Steveo: I would love to ride with you on this.
Tom, when you know what date you are doing the England & back I'd be happy to join you too.
Not sure about Amir's 300. I'm planning on doing the 400 from Musselburgh, the Snow Roads 300 and also the Deeside lass 600 - a joining of the Deeside loop and the Erit Lass. Not sure if I'll be alive after the last one and may not want to look at a bike for several months afterwards.
@steveo I am up for that as well. £35 is a lot to pay. Some sportives are far cheaper.
It sounds like we could do Tom's raid into England in April or May as Tom says, then the 300k in June, July or August.
I learned a few important lessons.
Me too. I upgraded my windproofing and visibility kit within days. Still not made the jump to dynamo hub.
I'm up for any and all rides going; I should probably get a couple more 200's under the belt before making the jump to 300. And join Audax UK, far that matter.
@steveo I'd be up for that - need to start trying to get some longer rides in (and that's good wildlife territory if I can be bothered lugging the big lens about).
I'm up for all of these things. Need to get my ass on a saddle.
I need to get my dog on a trailer, but I'll need another thread for that.
Nah, get a treadmill mounted on the doggy trailer and get it assisting you.
Dave C
Tomorrow looks nice, but cold. I think I will head into west, mid or east-lothian shire. Distance not speed.
If anyone else is free, do join me. I was thinking 60 miles-ish (or 100k, to put it another way) and Café stop.
I would like to join you but have child-care duties, collecting one daughter from sleep-over and looking after two more. Thanks though.
Given the predicted wind, if I can get out tomorrow, I'm going to head Eastwards - North Berwick or thereabouts.
Did my first reasonable run (44 miles) for months on Wednesday, I'm going to try and keep it going.
I'm currently thinking on heading inland to the south and the east towards general direction of Humbie, perhaps getting myself totally lost on the backroads in the process. Depending on how things go I might then strike for the coast to get a wind assisted home.
Not been doing much so just put in for group "e" for the ToEL (5 1/2 to 6 hours) let's hope we get a nice calm sunny day like today. :-)
I know there's probably not a fixed answer to this, but what sort of time limits are placed on an average short (100k) audax?
I need to think about setting a goal on my "training" this year.
Three and a half, to just over eight hours (start to finish time, the coffee and cake stops are up to you!) for the Tour of East Lothian, which I believe is standard for a Brevet Populaire (BP).
Of course it's not a race and it's up to you whether you push for a fast time or just bimble and enjoy the ride :-)
Btw, if any CCE'ers are setting off at the same sort of time as me, I'll hopefully see you at the start, the othrs I will wave at on your way past me ;-p
Okay! That's not so bad - I did 45ish miles in 3.5 hours last week... Now I just need to get one of my bikes to a suitable state to satisfy AUK...
From memory I believe its max speed 45kph min speed 13.5 kph.
If it is basically mechanically sound it's fine ;-)
AUK regs say 30kph maximum, and a range between 14.3kph to 15kph minimum. However for Populaires (under 200km) the minimum speed may be lowered by the organiser at his/her discretion, to as low as 12.5kph. It does vary though so check first.
At 15kph, 100km takes 6 hours 40 mins approx. or 3 hours 20 mins at 30kph. Remember your overall time includes time spent faffing around at controls, eating lunch, etc. not just time on the bike. So to hit say 15kph overall, your riding speed will need to be quite a bit higher, depending on how leisurely your stops are.
Aye Smudge - maybe now, but I seem to remember all manner of weirdages in the AUK regs which would have put paid to all my bikes in one way or another - uprights only (oops), rim brakes (oops), full mudguards with flaps (ah well...)
I'll see how I get on with my times and distances in the next few weeks

As far as I know none of these are a requirement at all (though mudguards can be required by individual organisers, they seldom are).
Indeed, from memory I'm sure it needs to be pedal powered by a human and legal, certainly seen recumbents on audaxes, for the DS answer though the rulebook can be found here:
