If I do get fit enough, I'll probably use the Chameleon, which (if I can remember which box I packed them in) has full muddies.

Time to start putting the miles in then...

I'll be on 23x700 slicks unless there is snow/ice on the roads :-)

I seem to remember all manner of weirdages in the AUK regs

Not sure about in the past, but since I started in 2009 the only stipulation is that your bike needs to be road legal (lights at night, for instance, and something that can slow you down if you need to stop, etc. etc.)

15-30kph average, and I've never heard of someone finishing a longer ride too fast. 19mph average including half a dozen control stops on our hilly terrain would be very respectable.

I've never heard of someone finishing a longer ride too fast.

Surely that's a physical impossibility because the controls only open at the time of the maximum speed. So you can finish a stage early but you'll then have to hang around waiting for the control to open before you can get your card stamped and set off on the next stage.
I recall that Gethin Butler has finished a number of Scottish audaxes right on the minimum time limit.

    @Charterhall, unless you are doing a DIY/Perm.

Even on a Perm (DIY or non-DIY) you still need time to get receipts/stamps, unless you are doing a DIY by GPS. Even then you might need to stop for a breather now and again.

I suppose there might be some folk on super light bikes with TdF levels of fitness/anabolic steroids/amphetamines who could do a 'scenic' Scottish 300k in less than minimum time. A 600k though?

It was a humbling moment when my previous smugness at the slowness of the 15/30 bracket was punctured when I realised it was aimed at distances so epic that for safety's sake the riders should be given time to sleep.

We are delighted to announce that we are open now for our 2013 Sportive which will take place on Saturday June 1st 2013. The ambitious route,
which starts and finishes in Lasswade, South Edinburgh, takes in the spectacular scenery of the Scottish Borders and some 8000ft of climb.

Now in its 5th year and included in the newly published book ‘World’s Ultimate Cycling Races’, this exciting Sportive event for serious amateurs involves a super challenge route of 102 miles. There is a shorter route of 72 miles also on offer for those who would not be able to complete the longer stretch within 8 hours or less. Riders leave from Lasswade High School, Bonnyrigg on the South side of Edinburgh and head south over the Moorfoot Hills to Innerleithen where the long and shorter routes split. The long route now takes a spectacularly scenic route around the borders and both routes meet again just west of Selkirk. For the shorter route, riders return to Lasswade from Innerleithen via the River Tweed and Gala Water valleys. Both routes then return to the High School over the Moorfoot Hills once more. Each participant will be individually timed and the finishing times will be published on the Bethany website after the event. http://www.bethanychristiantrust.com Feed and water stations will also be on hand offering the riders refreshments along the way. ( Entries are limited to 400 with an entry fee of £30 per entrant. Please sign up quickly to ensure your spaces.

    http://www.entrycentral.com/bethanysportive

There are 50 free spaces for riders who can raise over £100 in sponsorship! Please email Hannah BEFORE you sign up through Entry Central if you would like to register for a FREE sponsored place: sportive@bethanychristiantrust.com

    Happy Cycling,

But it's not a race. Paging Trading standards!

Shhhh! Sportive organisers trade on the blurring of the distinction.

    Sportivers pretend they're racing...audaxers pretend they're not.

(pinched from somewhere else but made me smile!)

Just to let everyone know that the Forth & Tay audax on the 10 March is filling up pretty quickly with only about 20 places left. I know a few people from here have entered already and as it's pretty local for a lot of folk I suspect some more might be thinking about entering.

So if you're considering entering you're probably best doing it the next few weeks as I suspect I'll have to stop accepting entries well before the event.

I would have loved to have done this audax but I've another commitment.

Hopefully tonight I'll be entering this, the Port Navigation and Graeme's DIY 400 & Deeside Lass too. The training is going well and I hope to be tooth pain free very soon (even if it means just pulling the dambed thing out!!

Anyone Fancy an Early Schihallion Snowroads (formerly Schihallion Sunrise)?

Apparently this is the A822 just north of Creiff.

Well I (think I) have entered the Forth and Tay, to go with the Snow Roads. And the London Marathon... I really should have entered one or the other. Oh well, I have nothing long planned for after that...

Hmm. Well I can't do the Amulree For Tea 150k out of Forfar, as it's my wedding anniversary the day before! Imagine camping in a field near Forfar on the night of your anniversary...

So, alternatives might include the Deeside Loop 200k on 5th May, or the Chevy Chase 200k out of Morpeth the same day. Or very possibly A Fyne Cowal 200k out of Bridge of Weir on 1st June. All three are a bit 'scenic' in terms of the climbing involved. Of course I could just do a DIY 150k/century ride closer to home, but I'm trying to support calendar events where I can. I have the Portmahomack 200k pencilled in for late June, so ideally I should do a May ride.

    Hmm. Pondering required...

Well as my sister bides in Bridge of Weir I think that's settled it. A Fyne Cowal it is: entry includes ferry ticket apparently!

The Port Navigation looks good but it's still the Merse and Moors that I'm most tempted by. It does have a couple of short returns and railway bail-outs if it got too much.

An update on the Port Navigation from the organiser:

"entries have been steadily coming in, almost 20 now, sufficient to cover the cost of the village hall at Ballachulish which has been booked (its the "curtains + voddie" control used on the sun drenched Twilight 600 in 2008), so no al fresco start.

Two good reasons not to leave your entry until the last minute –

    (i) Id like to give CalMac a reasonably accurate idea of rider numbers in advance.

(ii) With enough entries I might consider using this place http://www.pennyghael.org.uk/Community/Storage/index.htm as a control, otherwise it will be something more modest.

    Entries here http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/13-278/

If anybody wants to help out the calendar event, let me know.

I’ve pencilled in Saturday 2nd March to do the organisers ride, and anybody helping on the calendar event is free to join me that day. "

So who's entered the Tour of East Lothian? There have been a few mentions on here but just wonder how many could be bothered with cheque, envelopes, stamps etc.

    I'll be there anyway.

No online entry means no entry for us now. There are so many which are easy, I really can't bring myself to mess around with envelopes and cheques...

I'll be there (ToEL) along with a couple of non-forum pals :-)

The luddite in me quite likes paper and stamps for a change!
    Anyone received route instructions yet?

Is there a way to check if one is entered into an Audax? I think I'm into the Forth and Tay, but I'd like to confirm - I don't seem to have an email...
