A cluster of shiny new racks near the Playhouse, spotted last light on my way home.

Shore racks now in (behind the bench just at the corner near the Sandport bridge). Enough parking for 6 bikes, which is a start - though once it gets warmer you have 6 times that many bikes chained to every available railing / post & fence along the Shore.
Hopefully they'll put more in when they get more cash.

Remove car parking?

Midlothium rather than Edinburgh: there appears to be no actual bicycle parking at Sainsbury Straiton. There are some barriers to stop trolleys blocking a fire exit, so I started locking up on the trolley side. A youth in a tabard approached and spake incomprehensibly for a bit, then motioned that I should move to the fire-escape side and said more clearly that "[name denoting an apparent colleague] needs to drive in there". I pointed out that it was a fire escape, that the other similar steel barrier things further up were also fire escapes and asked if there was any actual cycle parking, at which the being wandered off. I moved to the café's fire escape, then swapped ends when it became apparent that there was a large crack forming between the two halves of the top bar.
Slightly earlier, Pentland Plants offered two sizes of not-bolted-down wheel twister:

As I was leaving a person in a cycling costume (who had entered the store when my wife was in the queue for the till, leaving his bike just outside the office, into which he went) stopped and had a wee chat about the paucity of parking, about high he seemed to be in some sort of position to do something. Apparently they get lots of CTC people in the summer.

Some 223 racks providing 466 new spaces will pop up along Edinburgh’s key thoroughfares including Princes Street, Leith Walk and Nicholson Street.
"

223 x 2 = 446. Where are the other 20 coming from? Are there some racks for 4 bikes?
Posted 7 years ago # -
No!
"
The second phase of the scheme will see 233 racks – providing 466 spaces - put in place on some of the city’s key thoroughfares, including Princes Street, Leith Walk and Nicolson Street.

Wonder if CEC has corrected the mistake, or EN curiously added when copying.

4 on Montgomery St
4 at 'The Street' (Picardy Place)
3 in lieu of the Elm Row pigeons
4 extra at St Leonard's Land
1 at Tesco Express Holyrood (a pet want of mine! yay!)Posted 7 years ago # -
The aforementioned Tesco Express Holyrood rack is already at an angle that can only mean it's had a lovetap from a white van man

Railings removed and 8 racks installed outside the Filmhouse.

"My" racks outside the Gorgie Road Co-op have arrived!!
(IIRC the location was already on the list when I suggested it...)Posted 7 years ago # -
@Stickman, fimm
Great news both. There's a real lack of cycle parking along Gorgie Road.

Used them this evening. Very convenient, much better than locking up to a drainpipe!

3 new racks on St John's Road, outside the new Costa Coffee. Good job.

Anyone have any resent experience of cycling parking at Murrayfield stadium, particularly the West Stand?
I intent to park and (bike)ride for the Rugby match on Saturday. Hopefully that will give me a quick getaway along the tram path to the west after the match.

How many years since 'promised'??

Morningside miracle! I wrote to them 5 years about those racks. I hope they have more than 4 in total though - pretty busy there these days.
