It's only 3 years since this was added to the list:

I don't think they were there when we passed at 4 last night so they must have been working late.

They are now on OSM: https://www.openstreetmap.org/edit#map=21/55.94106/-3.31493

There was a workie apparently digging holes for more racks at Morningside Waitrose this evening. There were 4 more wrapped in polythene next to the fire escape.

Oddly, the ones photographed up-thread had been removed to facilitate the work.

"Oddly, the ones photographed up-thread had been removed to facilitate the work"

No great loss , these were the 'designer' ones with not enough top tube to support many bikes properly.

The bike racks at my workplace have recently become quite oversubscribed and for a variety of reasons it is proving challenging to install more capacity on site so we were hoping to engage with CEC to ask them to install some on a nearby road which looks suitable.

Does anyone have any tips on how best to go about doing this? Reading this thread tonight has been useful, I can see suggestions that activetravel@edinburgh.gov.uk would be worth a go, or is the Cyclehoop site above a better way of getting the ball rolling here? There has obviously been a lot of new capacity installed in Edinburgh recently but it sounds as though these locations were all nominated at least six months prior?

    Any help appreciated.

Emailing cycling@edinburgh.gov.uk (the activetravel address would almost certainly work too, and may even have superseded the cycling@ address), with your suggested locations, and then sit back and wait patiently.

Locations I have suggested have had racks installed in ~6 months. They do the work in batches every few months.

I haven't used cyclehoop, so can't comment on the effectiveness of it.

A couple of years ago people were reporting racks being installed VERY shortly after sending in an email.

    (Possibly coincidence.)

Try CycleHoop too (they talk/sell to CEC.)

    For info:

"As of the 24th August, cycling@edinburgh.gov.uk and transport.strategicplanning@edinburgh.gov.uk are no longer operating. Your mail has been forwarded to activetravel@edinburgh.gov.uk and will be dealt with in the normal way but we would ask you to use the new email address should you wish to get in touch in future regarding any active travel issues"

On Morrison Street there are 5 odd triangle shaped racks outside the front of the EICC, and 2 outside the Co-op. Recently these have all been overflowing.

Not clear if more people at Widows and other offices are cycling, or whether perhaps all taken up by Cycle Republic staff who might be cycling....

Whatever the reason there would seem to be need for more (and better) racks at EICC / Widows / Cycle Republic sort of area.

Since 1995 Glasgow has had policy to install 200-400 public hoops per year, using as standard spec so that tenders are assessed on price AND spec to ensure consistency of installed products.

Selected sites have been mnitores with over 30% year on year growth in parked bike counts.

Installations co-ordinated with other street layout detail - angled to use less footway width - placed on kerb build-outs etc

Update: my request as per above is now likely to be approved and possibly installed as early as June! Thanks for the advice all & kudos to CEC.

This is the cycle parking at the Tesco Metro in Davidsons Mains. I've always found these awkward to use and have only just realised that I think this is because they are installed back to front - am I correct?

I don't think so, I think they're just crap designed to prioritise aesthetics over function. I don't think they're supposed to be so close to the wall, either.

The bike racks at Evans on Fountainbridge are the same.

    Regarding Princes St bike racks:

Allan Tinto (council active travel officer) says "There has been a delay in getting the cycle parking in on Princes Street although we now expect that this will happen next week (w/c 26/6/17)."

Can anyone confirm whether these stands went in or not?

Sweepstake on those Princes Street ones actually being installed before Christmas?

Have previously been told they'll be installed:

    "imminently" (in the Spring)
    "week commencing 26/6/17"
    "in October"
"end of this month, early next" (in mid October)

    EDIT:

I have great hopes for this, though:

Mark Hurst, asset management director at Ellandi, said: “We are genuinely excited about the Gyle’s potential with its enviable catchment and location with its own tram stop together with great road, rail and bus connections.

    Parking is okay.

Routes to the edge if the car park are alright but getting across car park definitely not 8-80

I hear that the preferred design that has resulted from Edinburgh Council's residential bike parking trial is the more aesthetically pleasing and space-efficient option as can be found on Lonsdale Terrace. Now might well be a good time to innocently email the Active Travel Team to enquire about how the project is progressing and express appetite for having one installed on your street (please name the street)...
