Haymarket needs a bit of a clear out. I've been double parked the last few times I've been there. Some of the bikes are clearly abandoned and some are stripped. Is there a statutory notice period where they can put up a notice? Do they care?

@aRobComp they certainly do ongoing clearout of abandoned bikes at Waverly, at any one time there are at least 6 bikes with notices on them often many more.

It seems that private companies/individuals are better at removing abandoned bikes than the council. I guess they assume that they are unlikely to be sued by an irate owner.

4 racks have been scattered in the areas that formerly held trees in front of the omni centre
The area is crying out for more after the project removed about 20 but they are uncomfortably spaced for pedestrian circulation

Got a leaflet through the door with photos of the secure parking pods and a link to the consultation. Presumably because my street is on the list (in fact the plan is to have it literally outside my door). Will of course send an enthusiastic response but couldn't help noticing that the bike parking is to replace just one out of 20 (twenty) parking spaces. And the spaces aren't even routinely full outside of big events like football at Tynecastle.

Exciting, looks pretty bold. Hopefully it won't get bunged up in administrative nonsense. Is it still going to end up costing more than a parking permit?

The one proposed near me is the footway access design, which requires footway width of >1.80m, and yet the footway there is nowhere near that, it's nearer 1m (will measure tonight). If it was changed to face-to-face access, the extra girth would probably be judged to obstruct the carriageway excessively.
They had one job...

When are these secure parking pods going to be built? There's one on my street and I would definitely be using it, even if it costs as much as a parking permit. Especially since I currently have to keep my bike awkwardly locked up to a lamp post as the building I live in has no space for bikes.

Don't go hoping for one in Roseburn...
I couldn't see it listed on the consultation but the upstanding locals are objecting to one being placed in Roseburn Drive.
This cropped up at last week's MCC, straight after the police officer reported an increase in bike thefts and encouraged us all to keep our bikes inside rather than on the street.
They didn't like it as they already had bins in the location...
When I said that they were usually installed where there was demand, I was told they had asked the local cyclist if they had asked for it and they hadn't...

I don't think it was that local cyclist.
The impression I got was they had surveyed the neighbourhood and accosted the person they had seen on a bike to check who had requested it...
It was definitely the Drive as they were concerned about the retirement home residents...

Still seems woefully inadequate, especially since there will likely be more use on that route with the CCWEL branch to Rutland Square.

Does anyone know the status of the programme? We are about to move, in fact to one of the streets where the pilot pods were installed all these years ago, so obviously I'd be very keen. The plans have them as 'existing cycle parking replaced with new units', and there are hardly any bikes visible inside at the moment, so I assume it's not possible to use them just now, but any news of when this is rolled out?

3 tier cycle parking has been delivered but it hardly delivers a decent level of service & IIRC requires all sorts of complex detail (hoists for upper tier massive soffit height for space etc....)
Much simpler & less complex systems available, with similar parking density

In recent days I have been pleasantly surprised to note not one, not two but three Edinburgh stands in stainless steel, installed neatly on pavement build-outs at the top of Easter Road. Two near the Post Office/A&A Traders, and one outside the pharmacy at the end of Rossie Place. These are in addition to the stand outside Iceland further up.
The stands near the Post Office seems to be very popular and well used.

Hadn't noticed previously but there's a new stand outside Scotmid on Easter Road too. Cycling shoppers are spoilt for choice at the top if Easter Road!
