It look as thought we maybe able to get the guys from the Bamboo Bike Club to run a workshop at the Edinburgh Festival of Cycling next year (15th-23rd June). Out of interest, how many people would be interested in join such a workshop to build their own bamboo bike fame?

    Hi Kim,

I can think off the top of my head of atleast 5 people who have built/are building or are preparing to build steel frames in Edinburgh and would for sure be interested in this workshop too.

I being one of them. I think you'll have no problem filling this up to the numbers of 20-30.

I've actually looked at bamboo bikes in the past, but not having the room to house a workshop makes it pretty much a non starter.

I'll be with Crowriver in Portmahomack, most probably camping and cycling.

  8. Actually, I might go down to London before this to visit them! I think this might be my solution for new bike frame to go riding in the Pyrenees next year. They're not as 'pretty' a finish as the professional bamboo frames, but you don't expect that - I like the thought of being able to build something to my geometry, and by my own hand, that I can then finish at home into a lightweight mountain climber.

If I do that I'd still be happy to help out if you can get them to the Festival. Speaking of which Kim I'll be dropping you a line tonight.

Update, I have had conformation that they are definitely coming to Edinburgh. The course will probable run over three days instead of two (as in London).

A further update on the Bamboo Bike Club to run a workshop at the Edinburgh Festival of Cycling: there will a course running 21st-23rd June, with a max of six places (If there is sufficient demand we may run another course in the week before ie 14th-16th June). This will be the first opportunity to build your own bamboo bike in Scotland.

It costs £420 for the frame build course. This includes all materials for building the frame, assisted 2-day workshop, customised geometry, hands-on tutorials, and lifetime bamboo bicycle club membership.

If you want to build a complete bike as part of the workshop there is an extra £35 charge and they will fully guide you in completing your new bicycle over a 3-4hr build, plus the cost of parts and components.

Obviously you can take the frame away and finish the bike build it yourself with out assistance. They can also provide advice on which parts and components are best suited for use with bamboo frames.

At the end of the day what you get is a completely unique bike custom built to fit you. So who is up for it?
