    Our one sided Parthenon on Calton Hill probably funded by slavery too, so both Edinburgh's Disgrace and Scotland's shame. Tho as kapps says in his ref to trambles, they ran out of money back then ( see also the Darien Scheme which was the original basis for Fred Goodwin's economic plans and resulted in England bailing out Scotland and the act of union 1707)

    This summer I took thing 2 and thing 3 along. I was lifting them on to it and then moved to hauling myself up at which point some helpful young tourists offered to help me, I declined their kindness. I must look very old and decrepit now.

    Maybe they could park the "spare" trams up there in an ironic/iconic marketing ploy in the manner of The Ramsden's/Specsavers/Wonga(*) thing in Scottish Football?

    (*)Pawnbrokers sponsor an SFL cup, Opticians sponsor referees, Wonga sponsor a club in need of a loan to get them to the end of the month)

    Steve Cardownie isn't always my favourite councillor, but surely he was right this time - the slogan is incrediburghly bad. Just awful. Anyway, that was pretty much the reaction of all the councillors wasn't it, not just him?

    If the client doesn't like the g*ff that the marketing agency has come up with, and begrudges the huge amount of money it has to pay for it, then Mr Leith Agency could do himself a favour and bite his lip, rather than have a public and childish rant at the client.

    Clients are notoriously indecisive, ask for it in green but really want it in black, but ultimately they're paying the bill and if they don't like it, they don't like it.

    And if Leith Agency is going to expect hunners of thousands of public money then it better accept it is going to be in the public spotlight if what they come up with isn't hitting the spot.

    Oh, and cobras aren't poisonous. They're venomous. Big difference.

    I think one problem here is that it's not entirely clear who client is.

    Councillors (esp. Cardownie) think it's them.

    Presumably the 'arms length org' thinks differently (?)

    At the very least the council is the major funder of the "arms length organisation". Regardless of how long the arms were intended to be, if the people putting up the money aren't pleased, that's what will ultimately matter.

    I'm no expert, but delivering a public attack at the source of the money I hear is called "doing a Ratner", and isn't very clever.

    Off topic @kaputnik:

    I will hazard a guess that 'poisonous' means the bulk of the entity in question is toxic, whereas 'venomous' means the entity is capable of injecting a toxin, but aside from that toxin's storage vessel isn't itself toxic?

    Or: if you bite a poisonous snake, you're dead, but you can bite a venomous snake all day as long as it doesn't bite you back.
