So in a High Fidelity style... Top 5 things you love about cycling in Edinburgh...
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

So in a High Fidelity style... Top 5 things you love about cycling in Edinburgh...
1. Canal towpath/old railway. My dose of countryside every day.
2. Cycling always make me feel (a little) like I did when I was a kid and it was my first real freedom.
3. It seldom rains on the East Coast! :)
4. The hills aren't *that* bad but it does keep me fit(ter) than I otherwise would be.
5. Did I mention it's just fun?
edited to add, AND I can have a pint without sweating that I'm over the limit (not that I advocate drink riding!)
Not on Apple hardware. Ctrl-Command-Esc on old machines or Command-Option-Esc for OS X.
Picking up my first Brompton from BikeTrax then trying to work out how to fold it in the hospital car park.
Spending nearly as long looking for Panmuir Place as it took me to cycle from Ayr (it was 1991 so no Google Maps).
Taking a folded up bike into the castle.
Seeing lots of Bromptons in town.
Sitting in Princes St Gdns with a bun and a trike the day before I turned 30.
That would have been easier without the geographical constraint.
oh it's the constraints that make it truly art...
Not sure I can get five...
Getting places faster and with much more convenience than driving/bus?
Being much fitter than someone 10 years younger?
In fact I can boil it down to one - getting more than my RDA of exercise while saving time getting places I was going anyway!
It doesn't hurt that it's cheap and saves the world, but to be honest I'd do it if it was expensive and wrecked the world, so I won't lie and put them as reasons!
Filtering through traffic on my fixed gear
Playing polo on my beater
taking part in the odd alleycat with guys 10 years younger than me
cycling the kids to school
building my first wheel with only sheldon for advice!
arriving at a gig with a drum kit in my trailer
sorry that's 6
I don't know if it's the sun or the coffee or the fact today's the first time I've ridden in over a week, but I'm almost uncontrollably excited about the ride home tonight.
Don't remember ever feeling that way about the drive home.
Doing 30 minute bus journeys in 15 minutes.
Carrying shopping (safely) over back handlebars of tandem bike. (Non-technical you see)
Knowing exactly when I'll be home to see the kids when I leave from work - 18 mins later no matter the traffic! :-)
Seeing my flab sloooowly disappear thanks to this extra exercise I'm getting. (It would be a lot quicker if I didn't keep shoving pork pies and Twixes in my gob.)
Learning how to fix things on the bike myself. Still a lot I need to do, but it's fun.
That's the real joy of cycling though, pork pies and twixes. Or Spicy Bean pies if you're a veggie. #nomnomnom
