CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 16years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

It's a nasty trench. I'm glad I'm on my mountain bike this week, and that I don't cycle that way in the dark. The chap in front of me this morning lost his rear light in the jolt going over it.
@LivD
Will you be going over it in the morning?
Interesting to know if anything has been done to cover/fill it.
Yes, I go that way every morning, just about. Will see what state it's in tomorrow :/
I believe it's been there since the weekend. I've tried to bunny hop it, forgetting that I've not ridden a bmx for 25 years, but it doesn't work so well on a road bike with a pannier bag. There didn't appear to be any way around it, either, although it's dark when I go past it in each direction, so maybe I've not spotted the way to do it?
I phoned Clarence this morning and hopefully managed to convince the chap on the phone that it was something worth investigating "urgently" rather than just the "over the next few days" that he originally said.
It's disappointing that @north_team hasn't looked already.
Would be interested to find out who dug the trench and left in this half-finsihed state in the first place.
Yes, slightly odd that there's no utility company sign up, like there usually would be. Even signs up saying RAMP would be useful - the trench is really hard to see in the shadow of the bridge, or at night. Even better would be a board or similar covering it up. They'd do that on a road!
I'm the 'BestofTimes' who reported this on Twitter and did see the 'work' taking place on this trench - I reckon it was last Friday afternoon.
At the time I thought the contractors did not look at all professional which was one reason the location stuck in my mind.
I agree this is potentially going to damage a bike or (if it's left) could cause an accident in winter weather. I'm glad people have tried to raise the profile.
There seemed to be a trench beside the path on Monday morning (but the path was still clear), and the tarmac was clearly dug up at some point on Monday, as the trench across the path was there on Tuesday morning.

Easier to spot now -
Yes, it's apalling, I've Clarenced it and I think the contractor concerned should be strung up.The HSE close whole schools for actions less severe than this(no signs; no attempt to make safe and so on)
Agreed.
It's actually quite dangerous if you took it at any speed. Still not fixed as of about 1730 tonight...
Noticed that it has now been given a covering of nice smooth tarmac as of this morning.
Thanks to everyone who followed-up on this.
