I met with a member of Edinburgh's finest last week at work and thought the outcome might be of interest here.
As part of the move towards a national police force, Edinburgh's division are looking at the development of the local policing strategy for 2013/14. Part of this will be around how they engage with local communities to establish what's important for them and ensuring the shift to a single force doesn't erode any community focus to their work.
They've arranged a series of open door community events, whereby members of the public can attend and offer their input into Policing in Edinburgh and what they see as priorities. There will be the chance to speak with Police officers and representatives from the council and possibly neighbourhood partnership groups.
This is very much about an 'Edinburgh City' focus for now, as opposed to a wider Lothian & Borders strategy, with the results of the discussion and the success of the consultation itself being fed up the chain of command to see how successful the process has been. Certainly, if anyone would like to raise any cycling-linked issues (e.g. enforcement of ASLs or speed limits?) this could be a chance to raise concerns.
The meetings are all taking place from 1900-2100 hrs on the following dates:
Monday 26th November - Craigroyston High School
Wednesday 5th December - Library Hub, Drumbrae
Monday 10th December - City Chambers Business Centre
Wednesday 12th December - Portobello Town Hall
Tuesday 15th January - City Chambers Business Centre.
