Anyone interested in maps must have visited http://maps.nls.uk

It's now had a makeover and things should be easier to find.

    About our map images

In our 'Map images' resource you can access and view over 48,000 maps as high-resolution, colour, zoomable images. The maps date between 1560 and 1961 and relate primarily to Scotland. We also have a small selection of maps beyond Scotland, including maps of England, Ireland, Great Britain and Belgium.

One impressive thing is that many maps can have Google/Bing etc. overlays.

For those of you working around Edinburgh Park this is what it used to look like. (Move slider to reveal the present.)

Nice. That starting map is old enough that Saughton Junction is known as "Corstorphine Station", despite the obvious distance between the two.

Off to get lost on the site now.

Oh dear...another couple of hours lost to me - I'm a total map and atlas addict...

Thanks for the pointer, I'll try and be strong and not spend too much working time poring over these :)
