Blew a tube this morning (leven street strikes again) so took a bus home with folder and had a driver tell me that bikes weren't allowed, but he'd let me on since it was folded. But that he was worried about the sharp edges , and that I had to stand with it, etc, etc.

I thought his requirements were reasonable, but thought it ws a bit much to start by telling me that bikes were banned.

(he then took issue with a woman who had been standing with buggy at extreme left front of bus, who then sat with chld in extreme right hand seat i.e. almost exactly across the aisle, ad made her fold it. I held child, while she folded and he refused to move the bus until it was all done.)

    Their conditions of carriage states:

The following items may NOT be taken onto the Company’s buses:

    b) bicycles other than folding bicycles which are folded and fully enclosed in a suitable carrying bag

Thanks cyclops, guess he was in the right then. I still found his attitude (viz buggy) to be rather overly technical.

Another passenger, who had offered to stand with the woman's buggy, said hes been refused carriage with his 3 year old and bike.

And, i've reported elsewhere having seen families with a scootbike (no pedals) being refused carriage too.

Ps - think i mislabelled this. was more curious about implementation of policy than th actual letter. but in fairness to driver, he clearly could have refused me carriage at all, so I suppose I shouldn't complain.

In future, to get around this you may want to buy a few metres of light rip-stop nylon fabric. Sew a simple bag from it, with a draw-string in the opening. Will be very light and easy to stow under the saddle in a small stuff-sac (sew from same material).

Simply plonk the bike in it, pull the drawstring tight, and board. No problemo, dudette.

@SRD, driver seems to have been nicer to you than other passengers.. We have discussed this policy way back, but you didn't have a folder then. :-)

I once saw a young couple all ready to paint their flat having been to B and Q being refused carriage because of paint tin. They needed to somehow buy a hold all instead of a B and Q Carrier bag. No hold all sellers at longstone.

I've never had any issues on the number 11 although the bike always had its cover on. Drivers never even blinked on the occasions I got on with bike plus 2 bagged scooters plus bag to attach to bike.

OT - Big thumbs up to LRT for the invariably high standards of driving their drivers display around cyclists.

that is the policy twins park. Folders only if bagged. We love Lothian buses but they do have their regs. They won't let you on with chips etc
