Okay, so this is only tangentially related to cycling, but thought a few folk here might enjoy this nonetheless....

    Good monbiot story.

George of the five allotments cold get a new jacket in the EBC sale taking orders now. They have some vaude made EBC panniers at two different prices ( same bags), tempted as one of my ortliebs on its last legs

@gembo - how did you know I was thinking of you? :)

I used to ave an allotment near George's. Ours is still there, but his was built on. He then bought one of the houses. Always thought that was slightly peculiar.

We're very happy with our new ortleibs. Our ebc panniers lasted well, but really need to be retired. They're shorty to hit the rubbish, unless anyone wants any attachments etc harvested from them.

SRD, do keep the pannier hardware. You can always attach them to another bag or to a big piece of corrugated and folded plastic when you want to transport something unwieldy.

@SRD because George Monbiot is an anagram of Orion Get Gembo. SORRY best I could do.

I have had ortliebs for eight years. But I treat them roughly and they are not indestructible. I am going to try the vaude made EBCs assuming the price is not an error and my attempt to purchase before sale works. my new strategy is to have two panniers on the bike all the time then I will never overstuff. The issue then becomes finding things is harder because double the places they can be hiding in the two bags.

Arellcat, I'm sure you're right, but even if I had room for storing stuff like that (wsh I had a garage!)I would never be able to find them when I needed them.

Would the Bicycle Works take them to harvest the reusable parts?
