I smell like a bonfire and I'm breakfasting on Irn Bru and paracetamol. A successful hogmanay was had on the beach in Portobello. Hope 2018 brings good things for CCErs and the wider world.

my photos don't look as clear as chdot's, because someone decided to do private fireworks in my line of sight. and also my phone decided to restart itself just as they started.

happy new year to all! props to those out riding in the cold and wet.

Happy New Year to all on this distinguished forum!

Icy here so grippy ceramic soles for some (!) Next door neighbour went out for run through. Cross country skiing not possible but Glenshee has some snow I reckon.
After lunch walk saw direct sun disappear by 2.30. See pic link.

Edinburgh fireworks looked fab. We had a female piper and a small crowd stood on the A924 to watch fireworks at Kirkmichael Hotel.
Nice walk on deserted road from Strathardle Inn where local band were playing songs by Waterboys and others. Road super-slippy with lots of black ice.

Happy New Year indeed to all the people that make this place such an excellent forum. Here's a New Year's Day video of what it means to have a place for your children to cycle safely around the city....

    Aye, here's looking forward to another good year on CCE in 2018. Top things I'll be on the look-out for;

    1. Defeat of the Gyratory
    2. Threads drifting into another universe altogether
    3. Ride-outs where everyone rides-back
    4. The perfection of wry humour in achieving 1-3 above

    Lang may oor wheels birl.

    “3. Ride-outs where everyone rides-back”

Does that mean that previous rides have left people behind or you think ‘rail assist’ is cheating?

Always been a big fan of the rail assist

Just means you can go twice as far out the way

    @chdot

I just meant ride-outs where everyone gets back safe. No probs with trains or anything else.

Despite rumours to the contrary I'm not judgmental about anything other than public sculpture, poetry translation, downhill mountain biking, google maps, haircut selection, mechanical disc brakes and few other little foibles.

Is "weighing your bike" included under foibles?

    haircut selection

    I have questions.

    "I have questions"

Is that related to 'l have issues'? (Asking for a friend.)

"I just meant ride-outs where everyone gets back safe"

    Ok.

Just not sure if that's a pointed (or even unfocused) comment on past event(s) where that didn't happen.

I get the impression that on many CCE rides where a group of people - some new to the others - set off, pace and goals adjust to suit all participants.

I've been on a few such 'great days out'. General purpose agreed but actual route and attractions visited made up as the day progresses.

Often involved vague map consultation and undergrowth.

Not at all, no. Just a hope for 2018, particularly CCE's off-road section.

I did get dropped once on a 'taster' ERC ride I'd been persuaded to join but I'm not at all bitter about those maladjusted wraiths.

Been on a couple of CCE group rides apart from PoP feeders. E.g. Trip to see the crammond rats and the Canal to Ratho trip (including singing Navigator by the pogues). Very enjoyable. I read IWRATS original comment as just a wish for safe returns. But could try picking him up on it to see if he will issue an apology, what do you think?

    A new year,
    A clean slate,
    I'll find love, lose weight,
Find something else about myself to hate,
    A new year,
    A blank page,
    I'll waste time, gain age,
Find a sort of happiness in rage.
    A new year,
    Some more time.
Only forwards through it can we climb.
