That sounds positive. I hope they close George St to motor traffic permanently. Surely even Edinburgh could manage that.

As usual, things like this are only tried during the festival. The rest of the year, it's back to motor city.

I note from your bottom photo how, despite "closing" George Street to traffic, a significant section of it just had to be turned over to being a car park. How very Edinburgh. I can see the practicality in a transit van for moving and carrying things, but still can't get my head around the rise of the urban "pick up" truck.

It's parking for the bar and food suppliers, which kind of detracts from the whole point of making the street a pedestrian space. But what they really seemed to mean was pedestrianise the street to the east of the Assembly Rooms...
Nice to see it was sunny in August. I think I must have been away on holiday that day. ;-)

Clearly you've not been Americanised enough. A holiday in Texas ought to sort you out. When you get back you'll wonder how anyone in Scotland can survive without a Cherokee at a minumum.

I once joked with a Californian pick-up truck owner about how impractical an urban pick-up truck would be in Scotland. I said they would never work in Scotland as all your tools would get wet, and then get stolen!
He looked at me sheepishly as if to say: "Yeah, your stuff would get stolen in LA too"
Hopeless!
