We're all doomed!
Might have to put my shorts away again.

In shock news the temp may drop below freezing in Scotland in January/February. Who'd have thunk it?

Not one for hyperbole, are they
Posted 11 years ago # -
Hyperbole be damned - this is the "BEAST FROM THE EAST"!

Eep. Best empty every shop I pass of bread when I pop out for a walk at lunchtime.

And petrol. Even if you don't have a car. In fact, especially if you don't have a car.
Posted 11 years ago # -
They can run out of Petrol all they want, my car is a Diesel (not that its of any use at the mo). No doubt its a slow snews day and they are page filling. I have noticed the warn recently but will just add a pullover as per....

Reminds me of this: http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/georgemonbiot/2012/jun/15/daily-express-weather-forecast-jonathan-powell
It seems standard practise for the chipwrappers is to go through the phonebook until you find the 'forecasting service' willing to give the direst portents, and not pay too much attention to how obviously it's just one bloke with a laptop.

"roar", with a "vengeance", "plummet", "plunged", "shivering misery", "Beast from the East", "roars" again, "blast", "shock", "threat".
Who writes this cr*p?

"Who writes this cr*p?"
Someone who has been told by their editor that 'It'll be a bit cold for the next month as temperatures revert back to the nrom for a Scottish winter' isn't exciting enough copy; and that they really need to work on that 'Pope is a Catholic story', and the thing about signs of ursine defecation in the forest needs a more dramatic angle.
Posted 11 years ago # -
And these days they can even pad the story out with stuff that random "commentators" on Twitter have said.

I'm not enjoying the unseasonable warmth, I'm down to wearing 2 seasons gear now (long sleeve jersey and knee warmers only, no wind blocker). Nuts.
Posted 11 years ago # -
Will be close to zero on Wednesday night mind you (and subsequent nights) so there probably will be frost and ice around. Just as I was beginning to feel a bit like a wally for keeping the spiky tyres on the hybrid...
Posted 11 years ago # -
Chillier already tonight - or at least feels that way. Of curse I am commuting in same outfit as in September!
Posted 11 years ago # -
@Dave, yeah I did not need my windproof jacket today, and only my 'spring' merino gloves were necessary. Due to be only around 6/7 celsius maximum tomorrow though (3 celsius on Thursday), so layer up a bit!

i'm off camping out in the north of norway for ten days, later this week.
the forecasted temperatures are not particularly harsh
http://www.yr.no/place/Norway/Troms/Storfjord/Skibotn/long.html

Pretty tropical for Norway.
Went skiing there with the school in 4th year - Voss, I think?
Lovely place, but virtually impossible to get a drink underage - probably a good thing given the prices
Posted 11 years ago # -
yes, its very pricey
i can just about manage a couple of bottles of mack beer at supermarket price (rema / rimi)
but pubs and restaurants are impossibly priced

@o_0, the forecast for Edinburgh on the same site is not much warmer. Snow forecast for Monday/Tuesday of next week...
Posted 11 years ago # -
I was pleased to hear the snap, crackle and pop of grit under my bike wheels on the North Edinburgh path this morning. Must say nice things about the council on twitter in return.
Posted 11 years ago # -
Innocent also lightly sprackly, albeit less so between Duddingston Road West and the tunnel and mostly on the bit between the tunnel and Terrar's Croft.
Posted 11 years ago # -
yes. meant to mention LW and MMw both lightly but evenly gritted. the slope up from Brunstfield Place felt a bit slippy though.
Posted 11 years ago # -
I've not been out this morning, as I enede up at work late lastnight and tired I took the bus home. I hope I'm not too cold this evening as I left my Merino Wool top at home and took out an extra hally henson instead. Quite chilly this morning.
Posted 11 years ago # -
Yep, definite grit on the Innocent. :-o

Rather nippy out there just now. I expect frost and ice in the morning. Spiky tyres time, people!

Is this getting excited about winter weather in winter thing a new phenomenon?
Posted 11 years ago # -
Some people like winter - snow more than ice - and more people seem to have bought spikes this year and are looking forward to using them.
It will mean that some people will be cycling more - which is good.
Posted 11 years ago # -
My spiky tyres are on order - won't be in till next week, so expect it to thaw around Thursday. Or else be so icy I can't get my bike to the bike shop to be fitted with its new shoes. One or t'other
