The world's greatest cycle journey planner (OK I'm biased) is about to be available (FREE) as a standalone app for iPhones (probably some time in July).

At present the web version works pretty well on iPhones (other mobile 'phone operating systems are available - apparently) but the app will add the ability to upload photos to the CS photomap for adding 'problems' or suggestions for things like '(more) cycle parking required'.

It's hoped that there will be a version for Android 'phones in due course - if anyone has a spare £15k. I only discovered two days ago that the CS iPhone app is being developed in Edinburgh!

Actually I don't understand the stats. It talks about "App Downloaders" - but the iPod and Google Maps are already on iPhones. I'm sure most people would in fact use Safari and/or Mail more.

CycleStreets was conceived in Cambridge, boosted by being developed for Edinburgh (interest declared) and (coincidentally) the iPhone app has been created here.

And it's going to be good -

This is great news. I think I'm getting an iPhone 4 through work and have been compiling a list of apps to download. This'll be one of them!

"compiling a list of apps to download"

I put some here - http://applebicycle.info as part of a project I did at the beginning of the year.
