  1. Let's see how the EEN trolls manage to make this one the fault of cyclists, the council etc etc etc.

I'm banking on speed cameras and bus lane signs distracting drivers; as well as having to swerve to avoid potholes.

  2. Ah, the EEN got in there itself in the second paragraph!

"The worrying statistic has emerged from official police road accident figures, taken from the last three years, which paint a stark picture of the Capital’s roads during a period of changed priorities and non-stop tramworks."

  3. "Councillor Lesley Hinds, the city’s transport leader, said: “These figures do seem high on the face of it, but what they don’t show is the severity of the different accidents recorded. The vast majority of these will relate to accidents which caused vehicle damage but no injuries."

Oh that's alright then.... *rolls eyes*

  4. And he's at it again!

"Neil Greig, director of policy at the Institute of Advanced Motorists, said: “Only about 200 road accidents a year in Scotland result in a fatality so the massive majority of these accidents will be on the less severe and minor scale.

“I think what these figures show is that we can’t be complacent when it comes to road safety. A lot of people will look at these numbers and think, ‘Oh my goodness, 13,000 is really high’.

“It shows drivers are still having bangs and shunts and other accidents and that is due to human error. We have new car designs and road safety designs which are trying to minimise accidents but the fact is people have to drive cars. That is why the message about road safety needs to continue.”"

People HAVE to drive cars. Fact.

In fact I am driving one right now.

  6. "most of these accidents are caused by incompetent drivers and brainless cyclists"

    Well. He's half right. Bless.

The second comment on the story does indeed pick up on that paragraph about the tramworks. And the trolls patting themselves on the back at the fact people who don't agree with them don't post there any longer (Smudge mentioned again!).

The New Town had the highest volume of accidents with nearly six a week, with the city centre itself racking up 2256 over three years.

Kirkliston, which includes the M9, was the scene of 512 reported accidents over the three-year period, while 497 took place in Longstone.

It can be argued that the New Town accidents have a contributary factor in higher traffic volumes, due to tram works. However, Kirkliston? Longstone? A long way from the tram...

    And he's at it again!

Or rather, the EEN is at it again. If they didn't keep phoning him up for a quote, he wouldn't get his drivel published.

"Only about 200 road accidents a year result in a fataility"

I've tried to write a response to this, but can't really put what I feel into words.

The accident map also revealed the number of these crashes which involved a drunk driver snared by police.

What???? If a person has an accident and are found to be over the drink drive limit, in what way have they been "snared by police"....?

  12. "If only 10% accidents are caused by drunk drivers is it therefore not safer to drive whilst drunk?"

    Responded to with:

"Thinking about this rationally...it would seem to be so."

I think you'll find that's the exact opposite of thinking about it rationally.

Obviously the original is meant as a joke, not sure about the reply, though probably tongue in cheek.

However, it seems one of our favourites on there condones racism: "Just wait for the responses from the "offended". Talking of which, we can't comment on the football tweet story, but whoever reported it to the Police should be charged with wasting police time."

  13. Oh my word...

"Last published figures (2010) are 189 road traffic fatalities for approx 3.6 per week. In the summer of 2009, four people were trampled to death by cows over a two month period for 0.5 per week. Given the number of road users versus the number of people in close contact with cows, crossing a cow field is statistically more likely to result in "carnage"."

    "accidents"

Gotta love the normalisation of destructive car culture.

It couldn't be helped. It was an "accident". 200 lives a year is a price worth paying.

People have to drive cars? Humans managed without them for untold thousands of years. Then cars were forced upon us by corrupt politicians who built New Towns, tore up the railways and tramways, decimated the bicycle, and marginalised walking.

Sickening. Another day, another reason to move to the Netherlands.

  18. BINGO!!!!

"The council has created total clutter of our streets - Too many demanding signs, obstructions on the road - speed bumps and pot holes. Drivers are too busy looking at the road surface in front and lamp posts for signs instead of the whole forward view. Stangely allowing parking too near corners which forces drivers to edge out into the actual path of traffic to get a clear view."
