For some reason I couldn't see my own post in the previous topic, so here goes again:

Spent an hour this morning with some scrap wood and my Carry Freedom Y-frame fulfilling a life ambition: a bike-powered snow plough!

    Warning: involves pavement cycling...

Makes an excellent job, considering. If it looks like staying on wintery I might need to figure out a way to get the wheels on so I can transport it between paths on the main roads though ???

Yeah Dave, your previous attempt was stuck in a spamdrift.

Dave, pop wheels on the top side and a trailer mount on the otherside of the bike and just flip over the trailer to run on tarmac.

There's something of an irony in not being able to cycleplough the pavement because of the white van parked on it.

Some sort of a brush attachment behind the main plow is needed I think.

    What's the noise levels like?

This is the sort of thing that streets need on a local basis. Moving fresh snow is no effort whatsoever. It needs done BEFORE a day of footfall compacting it down, basically as soon as it finishes falling. Doesn't need to look perfect either - a thin layer will melt quickly.

Could add on a 2L-bottle salt spreader (poke holes in the bottom) for a little more power at keeping the path ice free afterwards.

I don't have a Y trailer frame but I might just head to the garage later to have a play with the odds and sods of wood in there. I just need to figure a way of attaching it to the rear of my bike.

Probably the most difficult bit tbh. I would look at drilling a hole in a piece of wood and putting your QR through it as a starter for 10 on the mount.

The more flexible it is the better the plough would handle.

Mine is currently jumping all over the place after I added metal strips to the leading edges. It's too sharp so bites into packed snow/ice rather than skimming it (mainly added because I wanted better longevity).

Might switch back to raw particle board (ablative plough) although someone on another forum suggested a leading edge of draft excluder...

I got an extra long squewer with my Disco Rack, might look at that. Have some steel strips too whick I may drill holes in to screw to the arm and slot onto the squewer with.

@gembo - it appears to be something others have considered, not just a Dave frolic this time!
