Ok I know it sounds a bit odd but my rear brake not only appears to refuse to let go of the disc but also seems to be engaging even if I haven't pulled the lever. This morning I had to stop a couple of times to loosen the rear wheel and give it a wiggle to try and loosen the brakes off. I tightened it back up again and checked it still spun freely then cycled a bit further maybe 1-2 miles and then had to stop again and repeat the procedure. Anyone experienced this before or able to give me some repair tips, I have my lunch time to effect the fix.

Wheel slipping in the frame, perhaps? If the rotor is gradually sneaking out of alignment with the calipers, then that might cause the effect. And it would also be reset when you wiggled the wheel.
As a starter for ten then - check quick release is done up tight!

Could be water ingress into the system. If this freezes the ice expands causing the brakes to bite.

Darkerside, am reluctant to rule anything out but am 99% certain that the wheel isn't slipping the quick release this morning was very tight
DaveC, I wondered if the recent cold weather could have caused the oil in the hydraulics to be affected in some way or if the constant crap from the roads could have contaminated the pistons/calipers.
I guess i'll just battle home tonight and then over the weekend strip it all apart and see what I findPosted 11 years ago # -
I had this in my car a few years ago. Water got into the system and when it was very cold they were binding and getting very hot.
